I've got a 51' Magnavox widescreen rear projection HDTV. Games look great on it. I caught it on clearance for $850. It was well worth it.

Overall the Bravia's are a little better than the samsungs but then again they're more expensive.

I'm going for the 40" bravia myself.

I'm too lazy to look at the links but right away i can tell you that Samsung is a much more reliable tv thank sony when it comes to HDTVs. Many people think sony HDTVs are good buecause they are a sony but sony is actually lagging behind in the HDTV market. Def go with the samsung.

If you want to get a 37 inch LCD for just under $1000, I recommend the Westinghouse LVM37w3. Vga, HDMI, and DVI inputs mean full 1080p glory in a size you can actually appreciate the higher resolution.

Though there are some HDCP issues with the PS3.

Those are all nice suggestions, but I was looking for one of the top quality lcd's.  Sony, Samsung, Sharp, somewhere along those lines!

Also I could get a 32" samsung off amazon for $989 and off ebay for $979-$999.  Retailers are out of the question, I'm on a $1000 budget!

I heard a lot of bad reviews on that one, besides 1080p at 37" wouldn't be a good envestment imo.

I'd go with one of the Samsung 40+ inch LCD TVs in 1080p or if I really had lots of money, a 52 inch Sharp Aquos LCD. Or if I REALLLLLYYYY had lots of money. One of those 80,000$ LCD Sharp TVs at 103 inches.

No but for real, there are Sharp Gaming 1080p TVs with huge contrast ratios and refresh rates in 32 and 37 inch varieties for like 1500 coming this month.

That being said, Sharp or Samsung, any high quality TV has component and HDMI if that's what you're worried about. Don't shop at Wal-Mart for TVs.

They're not bad at all. I don't personally own one, but take a look in the AVS Forums. People seem to think it's a pretty nice set.

If you're looking for a bargain set, Vizio is a good one. I believe you can get a 42" LCD HDTV (1080i though) for under $1000. Supports HDMI and component.

The Westinghouse is a top qualityTV. If you look at it running HD content next to Samsungs and Sonys you'll see what I mean. But whatever. Some people feel better when they get smaller TVs with fewer inputs just because of brand loyalty. Do the research. The Westy is solid.

Get a Samsung DLP.  they offer 1080p over component or hdmi.  Costco has a 67" for $3000.  I have this TV.  It was an awesome picture and good reliability.  I think the Samsungs have a better picture than the Sony Bravias, for less price also.

If you don't have the cash or want to spend the cash, then get a Westinghouse or a Vizio. They are both great.  Don't go for some small TV. You'll regret it.

If you don't mind a crummy contrast, Westinghouse makes a solid entry to mid level product though. My only reason I didn't buy one was I don't like the washed out low contrast colors, not that the size or resolution bothered me.

Also if you want size and quality and price without worrying about physical size of the unit, a lot of people have said DLP TVs. Those are quite nice, although I can't say that I like sitting right in front at all times, not everyone gets a good view from the side...

They don't resolve all lines of 1080p accurately. I did research for my parents who are getting one soon. They didn't care, but I do. It maxes out around 900, according to Cnet.

I'd go for a Bravia. You get what you pay for and the image quality is insane. It has VGA for your 360, HDMI for PS3\Blu-Ray\HD-DVD and Component for either.

That would be because you're comparing an LCD to a DLP. DLP prices are much lower. My 57" 1080p Mitsubishi TV is about $2500, and I've seen them as low as $1800.

With LCD and plasma, you're paying because they're thin, and it's fashionable to hang TVs from the wall, not particularly for image quality ot something like that. If your TV is in a desk or you don't have a specific place to put it, go DLP - cheap, vibrant, no burn in, good contrast, and all if you're willing to date a girl a couple sizes larger at the waist. My TV is 57" diagonal and 18" deep - a far cry from a plasma/LCD's 4-6".

Yeah, I wouldn't trust contrast ratio too much. It basically means squat, since the measurement practices are at best sketchy and at worst approaching consumer fraud. For all we know, samsung is using a full on/full off, while Sony is making a decent, useful test, or Sony is displaying the static contrast and Samsung the dynamic one.

The only acceptable contrast information is actually seeing both TVs with similar (the same, preferably) input to see which one really works.
