This whole mumbo jumbo about Gears 3 and KZ3 looking exactly like their previous installments is getting a bit old, so to set the record straight for both, I've created this thread. Now discuss.

So there still using the same game engines right? No attempt to rebuild it based on anything to make it look 2 times better? Maybe at least make it look just as good as Crysis 1 by now?

These little visual updates mean almost nothing.

kz3 has colors? MFDOOM1983
If the latest trailer is anything to go by, then yes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSEt_KRXQis&feature=player_embedded

Looks noticeably less monochromatic than KZ2.

And there's the fact that the natural colors of people, clothing, and objects aren't completely overpowered by the hued lighting like they were in KZ2. So all that "Grayzone" BS can go rot in a ditch somewhere.

Those brown environments look terrible though. Aesthetically speaking but that's to be expected with the artstyle.

Many people dont understand how massive improvements made to Unreal engine's lighting are. Textures, are well higher quality textures.

I hope you aren't talking about all the environments cause I fail to see brown-colored snow and ice.

Lol. Hey c'mon, Guerilla Games are really pushing the boat out when it comes to them trying to intricately juxtapose a blend of colors without ruining their iconic synthetic, fake gritty artstyle. :P

Actually, it looks far less synthetic than that weird tanning booth lamp effect Call of Pripyat uses........Yeah. I went there. :P

I honestly don't care what they do with their graphics. If anything people should knock how uninspired they both look in the game play department. Epic seems almost too willing to rest on the idea that Gears is still the best cover based shooter(arguable, but they could still step it up some notches), and Killzone 3 is almost too willing to put faith into what so far is a gimmicky jet pack. That's just single player at this point. Multiplayer wise Killzone 3 should have some new wrinkles, and the flow of the game should change more now because of how it is structured this time. Gears 3? ugh it looks like they added perks(I hope I'm wrong about that).

Unreal Engine 3 use to have trouble handling alot of dynamic shadows, and when devs tried it hurt performance and looked very grainy. The lighting and shadows have come along way since the first Gears in both quality and performance.

There will never be a current gen console game that reaches anywhere near the graphical level of Crysis or many other PC games.

This is because consoles use fixed hardware and their biggest weakness is low RAM, VRAM and memory bandwidth+speed.

The fact that Gears 2 's UE3 lacked so much tech that modern gaming tech is becomed accustomed to for years, Gears 3 finally adding those tech features makes it a substantial improvement over Gears 2, but KZ3's graphical engine still trounces UE3.5 on consoles, espicially with KZ3 adding MLAA, Global illumination, etc

Gears 3 features Global illumnation through epic's lightmass importance volumes. And to further the questioning: name some graphical features capable on the killzone 3 engine that arent capable on the Unreal 3.5 engine.

Dunno about Epic and gears 3 but a post process AA based off of intel's mlaa paper has been implemented on the UDK by a modder.

It was a great game though. Then Japanese developers look over and go "oh, games with a good story are bad". Then we get game like Quantum Theory that gate a 2.5/10.

Unreal has global illumnation. That is fact, its not disputable. Im not really understanding the point of your post. If it was directed towards the latter half then perhaps you may attempt answering the question instead of responding with something irrelevant.
