BEST- Final Fantasy X
WORST - Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerebrus
Well?
Best: Final Fantasy VI, easily one of the best games I've ever played.
Worst: Out of all the ones I've played, I'd go with the first Final Fantasy. It's still a good game, but I feel like it's the most dated.
I tried playing FFVII more times than I can count and I always get bored and stop playing halfway through. I can understand its importance in the time, the graphics and design in the day were top of their game. But, the kind of game it was, never did anything for me back then, certainly doesn't do anything for me now.
By contrast, kind of funny how hated the FFXIII series was and I actually enjoyed them.
Best: FF9
Worse: FF, FF2, FF4 the years after. They were way too outdated for me. They are the only FF that I never could finish.
FF4 FF6 FF7 FFTactics - Best
FF8 FF10 FF12 FF13 - Worst
Early ones were are in the middle and ff11 was okay for mmo didnt play ff14
Best would be 8 & worst would be 7
Now before anyone says something, let me say that those are the only 2 FF games i've played and for me 8 was better than 7.
Best: Tactics
Worst: 4
Tactics is actually a legit good game. FF4 made me stay clear from jRPGs for a long time. It was that bad. Not just hte worst FF game I have played, but the worst jRPG I have played. The only jRPG I dislike more than Persona 4.
@lamprey263 The only good part of FF7 was the midgar section. After the midgar section, the villain got rather dull and the padding was unbelievable. The story slowed down to a crawl, and the feel of urgency just wasnt there.
Best VI, VII was the last one I managed to finish, VIII was awful, IX was okay and the furthest I've played out of the new ones
Best - FF7 - Runner Up FF6.
Worst - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles....
If main franchise only? FF13 and all its acompanied CRAP.
My fav Final Fantasy is still Tactics on PSOne followed by 6 and 7.
I enjoyed a lot 4, 5 and 9. XIII was ok for me, XIII-2 was interesting but this one and Lightning Returns could've been way more if they didn't stay shallow in some aspect which would've turn the game from 13+ to 17+ eaasily... I mean when you see Noel at the end of the world or in LR when you do the quest of the guy who forgot 100y of his life until you found his diary ... man it could've been super dark.
FFX and X-2 are just over 1 and 8 for me ... I finished them but they are way too easy and dunno, something felt off with those, I had more fun with XIII trilogy.
I still haven't finished FF1 and FF8. Just couldn't get into those so I guess those are the worst for me.
Best for me : 6,7 and tactics
Good : 4, 5, 9, 13, 13-2, LR
Ok : 2 ,3, X, X-2, so far I would put World Of Final Fantasy here
Bad : 1, 8, Chrystal Chronicle, Dirge Of Cerberus and I'll add 12 here
Unplayed : 11, 14
Why the **** does everyone hate 8? I like 8 way more than 7
- Press "use guardian" to win every battle
- Squall is a ****
- They are suppose to be some elite trained force but everyone is an idiot with the mind of a 13 year old
- The overworld map is crap and you will be spammed with battles constantly (which amount to press X to win)
- Constantly forcing character switching
- Terrible explanation of battle system
- Enemies level with you
Best: (Look at my avatar)
Worst: I didn't enjoy FF7 Dirge of Cerebus much but it wasn't a traditional FF game so I will give it a pass.
Really though, my admiration for these games has retroactively taken a nose dive. Even the games in the series that I used to consider great, I now view as average to maybe good.
The games never had excellent gameplay. They had their moments, sure, but nothing amazing. Truth is, I was mainly in it for the stories, characters, music, and big immersive worlds. But I was a young and impressionable dude during the better years of this series. My bar for good stories and characters was pretty fucking low since I mostly consumed video games and nothing else back then, so stuff like Final Fantasy came out smelling like roses.
Hard to believe I once thought FFVII was one of the best games of all time and one of the best stories ever. But I was also the same young dude who thought OoT was the best game of all time and thought MGS2's story was both brilliant and deep lol. It is what it is.

With that long bloated intro that nobody cares about out of the way:
Best - FFVI, but I could also go for FFIX or FFXII.
Worst - FFIII, but I can also see an argument for FFVIII or FFXIII.

If we're going with non-numbered titles, Tactics probably shits on the rest of the series.
FF4 made me stay clear from jRPGs for a long time. It was that bad. Not just hte worst FF game I have played, but the worst jRPG I have played.
lmao. Scathing words bro, but I can understand.
I'll never be able to hate on FF4. It was my 2nd JRPG and my first FF game. I think I was 9 or 10 years old when I first played it and I was completely floored by how "amazing" it was haha. No matter how objectively poor the game may be, it carries a massive stock of nostalgia with me.
Just curious though, have you played the other numbered titles? I don't disagree with your dislike for FF4, I just think you could do much worse with this series.
9 or 10 are likely the best. If not 15.
Worst is likely 2, objectively. Though 13 is bleh. And 3 has some of the worst grinding ive ever encountered.

I played.
1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 14.
FF4 had some serious issues with me. In every area.
Story: It was typical shonen trite. And to make matters worse, there was a pre-defined protagonist. Being a former villain was kinda cool I guess, but it was so deemphasized, especially after you became a paladin. The game never really did anytyhing interesting with this point.
Gameplay: In Final Fantasy 1, the one I played before, I actually used quite a decent arsenal of spells. I used buffs, debuffs, status ailments, healling and offensive magic. In FF4, I dunno what happened, but for some reason, combat was using my strongest ability every battle for each of my characters and having my white mage heal whenever someone was injured. In FF1 for instance, my spellcasting was a LOT more varied, and sometimes I even casted differing spells depending on the encounter. The only variation I found to this trend was one of the bosses which had a reflect gimmick. Of course, spellcasting and usage of abiliites was not hte only problem with the combat. The ATB, was always a mess (as far as FF is concerned, Labyrinth of Touhou actually did it well), but FF4 arguably had the worst implementation of that system. The character system was almost non-existant, with pretty much the only thing you getting upon level ups being bigger numbers, sometimes a new spell which would allow you to deal bigger numbers than before... kinda dull.
Maybe it would have done something for me had I played it when I was young. But the game was never released in europe on the SNES (alongside every other jRPG). Overall, nothing about the game particulary connected iwth me. Needless to say, this game epitomizes pretty much everything I find to be wrong with jRPGs. It was a boring slog, with nothing that really stood out for me.
Objectively speaking, FF2 was worse. But FF2 didnt annoy me with its ATB combat, and breaking that game's balance was a guilty pleasure of mine.
Best: FF VI because I liked Kefka as an antagonist.
Worst: Hard to figure out, but I have to say FF 2. I just didn't like at and never caught my liking especially as a "sequel".
Oh, wait, nvm 2. Worst one for me is FF Mystic Quest.
That's tough. I have played the first 4, and they're fun (though in different ways). VII is fun, too, but hasn't held up well. I don't hate any of the FF games I've played, but I haven't strayed from the mainline games (so no spin off games). I didn't even hate XIII.
Overall for me, the FF series was the genesis of some greatness, but was never something I felt particularly attached to.
Hmmm... I'm going to stick to the main series here.... (also no sequels since they would all be under worst)
Best: FFVII - atmosphere, combat, world design, story all come together here and make the game my favorite
Close 2nds: FF 6, 8, 9, 10 - any one of these could have possibly been my favorite if I had not played VII first. 6-10 are straight gold.
Worst: FF2 - wonky leveling system which allows the player to break the game even easier than FF8, plus the game had uninspired dungeons. Still a decent game though.
Close to worst: FF1, 13
Also worst: XI and VIX, since they are MMOs and are lame. Coincidentally they are the only ones I haven't sunk a decent amount of time into. I played 14 for a few weeks but it's boring as all hell.
Even though they are labeled as 'worst' I still enjoyed all of these games (except the MMOs)
Only doing main ones here.
Best: FFX followed by FF7 and FF9
Worst: FF2. I disliked FF13 as well but FF2 one was not good, and it aged by far the worst.
Best: Final Fantasy X - I enjoyed everything from the story to the games setting. Felt really part of the game from start to finish. thinking about buying it from Walmart for PS4 for $8 even though I already own the game for PS2 and 3.
Runner ups: Final Fantasy VII , Final Fantasy VIII , Final Fantasy XIII - 2 , Final Fantasy IV
Worst: Final Fantasy XII - Game was a terrible mess from the lifeless story down to that god awful gambit system and license board. Final Fantasy IX - Game was just boring, but the story was ok. Final Fantasy Lightning Returns - Meh
