Okay, so I've seen videos about this and originally assumed that Crysis 1 was more graphically demanding because Crysis 2 dumbed down the games lighting effects and how brush moves out of your way. It's also regarded as though it was ported from PS3/360 to PC. However, the polygon count has been significantly raised from the first game to its sequel.

I ask because the benchmarks thrown around for Wii U are thing like "It can run Crysis 2 on Very High at 1080p", so I wanted to know which is really graphically superior.

Crysis 1. The scope and absolute amount of assets and interactivity alone is a huge difference, even if Crysis 2 has a more optimised render and DX11. Believe me, compare the two in their respective sandbox editors, it's jarring.

Crysis 1 is more demanding. I can max out Crysis 2 with high framerate, I can max out Crysis 1 but it dips under 30fps a lot. Crysis 1 is more CPU intensive (and my CPU is not very good) Crysis 2 is also more well optimised, it was using 99% of my GPU.

Definitely Crysis 1, I have yet to see a dip in Crysis 2, DX 11/Mods and all.

Crysis 1 because it's an unoptimized mess. Crysis 2 actually uses your GPU.

Some custom maps for Crysis 2 have brought back the scale of Crysis 1 maps and they run much better than Crysis 1 ever did.

While Crysis 1 feels more taxing, it's really that it leaves 40% of the gpu's power idle the whole time, and Crysis 2 just uses it all, and appears to perform better, but at 60% gpu, it'd perform worse, most likely...

Really Crysis 1? I've been playing through Crysis with CCC mod level 5 and hi res foilage and usually stay in the 40-60 range. I just started Crysis 2 with Dx11 and texture patch at ultra and it's more demanding on my rig than Crysis, been getting random dips into 30's and high 20s. This is on a GTX 580 with a 2500k at stock clocks.

Same here. I haven't played with the editors, but my current setup obliterates Crysis 1, whereas in Crysis 2 DX11 w/ textures, I have to turn down some other options to get around 30fps constant.

Crysis 2 (w/ DX11 + "HD" Textures) is more demanding in terms of graphics. Crysis 1 seems demanding, but that's cause it's not optimized.

Crysis 2 DX11 is a bit harder to run than Crysis 1. Crysis 1 has features that are more graphically demanding than C2, but it also had a bunch of optimization problems.

Also Crysis 2's lighting model is far superior to Crysis 1's, I mean, really, really superior. I don't know where you got it was dumbed down.

Crysis 2 in DX11 is more taxing.

Still doesn't beat out Crysis 1 graphically, and it probably never will.

C2 with the updates. C1 is just unoptimized so it's more taxing than it should be thought it's still a fairly taxing game.

Crysis 1

This is because in Crysis 2, the texture quality was practically halved unless you got the texture patch, and in addition to this, you are situated in a large island, and you can interact with most objects at a VERY FREAKIN' FAR DISTANCE!

I'd say Crysis 1, just because of the larger environments.

Crysis 1. If I max everything out, it's a laggy mess. If I max out Crysis 2, it runs fine.

Crysis 2 jumps with tessalation tho, but Tessalation is so poorly optimized at the moment and really just a gimmick

it doesnt

Crysis 1 with mods is more demanding

Crysis 2 on DX11 only drops the framerate when you look at tesslated objects like brick walls

Crysis 1+mods maxed out at 1080p gets me about 15FPS, Crysis 2+DX11+Mods maxed out at 1080p gets about 12FPS. Since Crysis 2 is better optimized, it is more taxing easily.

This is exactly what happens with my rig too. Crysis 2 is way more optimized, the HDR and SSAO is much faster yet the game still runs slow, so I'd have to give it to Crysis 2.

Vanilla Crysis 2 is less demanding on your system than Crysis 1, but Crysis 2 + DX11 patch and higher res textures is more demanding than vanilla Crysis 1.

Crysis 2 DX11 and the high res texture pack IS vanilla crysis 2, they aren't a third party mod.

Bingo, and simply put the Technology scale or other wise under C2 DX11 is a league above C1.

this I always tought that the opitimization on Crysis 1 was bad. And that's the reason its the ultimate benchmark test. I'm out to see a game that's so bad optimized like this one. GTA IV comes to mind, but I heard that some patches improved the optimization.

This is something i dont understand.....i have a e6750 @ 3.4ghz and a gtx 460 and i am not limited at all in Crysis 1 with 99% gpu usuage, yet in Crysis 2 im around 70/80%ish. I would argue Crysis 1 is less cpu intensive that Crysis 2 despite its larger scale.

Im not sure why people keep on claiming Crysis was badly optminized..... The sheer size of the levels, Ai, physics, graphics and level of iinteractivyof the level. I think what happened was alot of people got a bad taste in their mouth when their Pc's couldnt run the game on high or max so they blaimed bad coding or it being unopminized. Then claiming Crysis 2 was more optminized since it ran better overall. I ask you how can you claim its better optminized when the levels are smaller & linear with it being streamed a cell at a time, more scripted Ai, less physics and less interacrive areas. People are mixing up being less demanding (because of less content) with it being optminized. I think a few are also still trying to justify their purchase of Crysis 2 which was inferior to the 1st in many ways.

Its because with newer GPUs, it for some reason stops at 50-60% usage of the GPU. It doesn't take advantage of newer video cards at all.

Huh? Crysis 1 used both my 8800GT's at nearly 100% and with my new GTX 560 it does the same with nearly100% usage. bouncing between 85%-99% usage, most of the time it stays above 90% usage

that only hapend when the CPU bottlenecking the GPU.

On my system crysis use 100% of the GPU pretty much all the time (i7 4.1GHz, GTX480 OC, 1920x1200), but when i lower the resolution (to something like 1280x720) then my CPU starts bottlenecking the GPU and i get less GPU usage.

-On topic now:

crysis 2 is more demanding when you use DX11, tessellation, etc

What I truly care about is optimization and performance What good is a "graphically demanding" game if it cant run properly, is full of glitches, and looks like ass in motion *cough console crysis*
