Poll Which is the best controller ever? (109 votes)
Have just included pretty much all the main one's here as everyone has their favourites.
I included the Atari 2600 as someone mentioned it was the prefect controller before and in a way they might be right as it's pure simplicity and lean design. Remember at that time controllers were coming out with like 20 buttons like an old mobile phone with dials on them and sh*t.
But I was torn between the Genesis and PS4.
I don't think you need as many buttons as we have and I know the SMD controller wouldn't work with 3d games. But for what it's for it does, it does it the best I think (ie simple 2d games). It's very comfortable to hold and with solid construction and good size and placement and good responsive and 'pressy'(word?) d-pad and buttons. I found the SNES controller a bit too limp and small. The 6 button controller was only compatible with like 6 games, showing how it was only really Street Fighter that benefitted from it.
But the PS4 is still very comfortable to hold and quite heavy which is nice but I am a bit overwhelmed by all the buttons.
So my choice is the Genesis 3 button controller for stylishness, build quality and ease of use.
If the Dreamcast controller had the analogue stick on the right hand side, it could have been a viable 3d gaming controller as you could move and strafe with the d-pad and it has a cool little screen but SEGA are stupid. But it's uncomfortable and the analogue controls are a bit jumpy.
The Duke OG Xbox controller was also quite nice despite it's size with really nice buttons but again, maybe too many and a bit unwieldy.
You may think me mad that's just what I thinks.
I invented my dream controller around christmas of last year to a muted reception from the GS crew but here it is again for your appreciation.
