Paper Mario will probably garner the most votes because:

1. Hipsters.

2. It was the first one.

3. People are more familiar with the Mario-esque environments encountered within, which has a psychological effect of pleasentness (which explains why white people prefer white people, so they may be racist, too). I am a psychology major (I also play ultimate frisbee), so I know these things. If you any psychological questions, feel free to message me.

4. It is simpler than Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, which in this case, will mean it's better as it fits their bias. Watch out for the word "charm" and "personality" a bit a million times, despite the middle two containing most of it.

Anyway, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door because of these things:

1. A well-developed storyline (I'm going to leave this vague so I can act like I'm right without having to explain it).

2. Most intricate combat system. It's an obvious improvement over the original one. Bonking somebody's head is simple. The sticker system can be easily manipulated.

3. It's the longest one with the most content, with that board in Rougeport offering services (services as in actual well-meaning decent jobs, not prostitution).

4. Most humurous. It has more than tongue-in-cheek humor and some cultural references to boot.

5. Ms. Mowz.

6. Everything else. I'm tired of typing.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is easily the best. Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario are close, but Paper Mario: Sticker Star is far behind because of how stripped it feels.

In before someone gets mad that I said Nintendo games are kiddy and that Call of Duty is the best thing ever because they take everything seriously and thought I was being serious. But I really am a psychology major. I lied about being an ultimate frisbee "player," though... I'm actually the captain. Yup, you caught me. :P

Thousand Year Door. And to be honest they haven't made a good one sense. They need to go back to the old ways of the game instead of changing it every game.

With Paper Mario: Sticker Star, the game was created with people who play in short sessions in mind. Given how there is no cohesive world and instead a bunch of disconnected levels that take 10-30 minutes to complete, I guess they succeeded...

I really liked the first one, but The Thousand Year Door beats it in every way. I actually enjoyed Super Paper Mario for what it was, and the story/characters were great. I haven't tried Sticker Star but it seems pretty disappointing.

Normally I would call you a hipster since you put an older game above two newer ones, but you're right and I agree with everything you said.

None of those are outstanding, I liked TYD though M&L saga and SMRPG destroy the Paper Mario series

Paper Mario was a great game, but Thousand-Year Door improved on everything. Super Paper Mario was really good, too, but I missed the RPG fights.

Sticker Star is a bit more annoying, but I love it so far.

How is someone hipster for anything that's had a sequal or two? They aren't liking it before it was cool in that case. Anyways, as many others have stated, TTYD was just so much better than the original Paper Mario, keeping the formula but improving everything as a sequel should. I really hope they do one for the Wii U in that styIe. It's been long enough.

Haven't played TTYD sadly, so the original Paper Mario is the best for me, through Super Paper Mario was still pretty good. Sticker Star is disappointing on the other hand.

So if we like the first game more than the second, our opinion is invalid and we're just hipsters? Anyways, I really liked the first 2 games with Super Paper Mario being okay, and Sticker Star being a disappointment. I will have to give the edge to the first one though as I liked the story a little bit better than the second and preferred those boss fights more. Loved fighting against General Shy Guy and the Crystal King.

Even though I enjoy Paper Mario the most and it's my favorite game in the series, it is a long way from being better than TYD. Even us nostalgia-laced people know when a game is better.

TTYD added to the original game's formula, and had a bit more optional content, so for that it was technically a better game of the two. I do admit I kind of liked the overall world in Paper Mario 64 more, and I appreciate how Paper Mario 64 actually made Bowser into a cool villain (Paper Mario 64 is still the best handling of Bowser IMO). So for me personally it's actually very very close between PM64 and TTYD for best Paper mario game.

I didn't hate Super Paper Mario or think it was a bad game, nor did I even think it was bad they strayed from the turn-based RPG. My gripe with the game was that it was too damn easy. Overall weaker than the previous two games.

I actually just started Sticker Star Tonight, making it as far as beating world 1-1. I like how they seemed to blend the "classic Mario' feel (the world being spilt into levels, ala 1-1, 1-2, etc.), with the Paper Mario feel. I'm intrigued to explore the sticker function further and find it promising thus far. the game does lack the kind of personality and charm of previous games I feel though. Not that Sticker Star doesn't still have personality, it does, I just find it lacking. Then there's the fact that the lack of exp. gives less incentive to fight. I'm guessing I'll still have to face enemies every now and then so I still have stickers to use or coins to buy stickers. BUt outside of that, why bother fighting? I still battle enemies for the hell of it and to get my money's worth, but it is a glaring flaw.

I think I'll enjoy Sticker Star, but I definitely don't see it overthrowing the first two games, or maybe not even Super Paper mario. Perhaps I'll feel differently the more I play.

The first was definitely the best. The second tried too hard, and the graphics seemed less paper-y to me though. I do love, however, that Flurrie was a strong, confident black -er, I mean PURPLE- woman who don't need no man!

Everything was great about TTYD except the writing. That game was not funny, whereas the first game was charming, and all the other things you listed that a hipster would say.

Ah, TTYD, one of the many gamecube games that garnered recognition for 2 seconds and then everyone went back to their PS2s. An amazing, blessed masterpiece that everyone should try.

It's funny how TC is so condemning in his opening statement. "I know Paper Mario will win because this forum is full of hipsters and I'm a psychology major (who plays ultimate frisbee)," well looks like you have no clue what you're talking about because in the polls TTYD is winning. I find TTYD to be the best. Super Paper Mario was alright, and Sticker Star was disappointing.

The first one, hands down. Best battle system, partners, story, music, and locations. One of my favorite RPGs and Mario games of all time.

Thousand Year Door. Paper Mario 64 is primitive by comparison, and Super Paper Mario flat out sucks when compared to just average/good games.

I don't even understand how the last two paper mario games turned out as underwhelming as they did

Make a good RPG. They don't need to completely reinvent the rules every game with some weird new broken system. A good story, and fun places to explore would be more than enough

Makes sense. The first one is more accessable. Theres a lot less text and other red tape to get through in order to get into the action.

I like the 1st best.

I tried getting into TTYD a couple of times; I can see that it's a better game, but it couldn't keep me interested for some reason.
