So, there's the poll, so make your vote, comment etc.

If you don't agree with the options in the poll, feel free to write your candidate, but at least vote for one option.

On that list Half-life and GTA. GTA for sandbox madness, Half-life for story driven FPS's and more.

Mystery Case Files. Not only it started the whole genre, but this genre has taken over casual gaming, there is no week without a new Mystery Case Files clone being released. What's more the whole genre is following the main series in it's evolution. The genre has been introducing more and more adventure games elements, some of the recent hidden object games are more like light adventure games. And while the series didn't always spearhead this evolution, it's only after MCF does it that the majority of clones follow.

GTA for sandbox obviously...

As much as I wanted to vote Half-Life for story driven FPS well.... I voted Halo since for every good story driven FPS, there's about 10 MP FPS with mediocre to downright terrible SP.

System Shock 1 is still very influential, it's still influential in so many aspects 15 years after release. Dead Space is the best example of how far-reaching is System Shock's influence.

I'm gonna say WoW because I partially blame that on Bioware not making KOTOR 3 and making some MMO instead (although this could change).

Eh, not true, although he did save console gaming in North America, but of course that's nowhere near the same thing. C64 was supreme in Europe at the time, Arcade and console gaming was fine in Japan, Nintendo saving gaming is a myth.

Doom should be on the list, basically popularised the (saturated) FPS genre, WADS were a precursor to Mods and online was on Doom 2 (akthough popularised by Quake 1).

Perhaps, but it's about the most influental franchises today. And let's be realistic, Mario isn't THAT popular these days.

MGS is a masterpiece, but it's not that influental. I'll say, MGS is pretty much niche, just like Splinter Cell for example.

In other words, it's fantastic, recognizable, but not that mainstream.

GTA easily. Halo may have encouraged multi-player FPS games, but there were already a lot of those. GTA 3 skyrocketed sandbox games from something you see once in a while to something being mixed in with almost every genre.

Half-Life, it started story-driven FPS, and numerous mods came from the Engine Code. Games like Counter-Strike, The Ship, Team Fortress, and Day of Defeat all became influential games in their own right, with Counter-Strike being arguably the most influential Online FPS ever.

either wow or wiisports seeing as one pushed the underdog console to the number one spot in a big way and the other gets millions to pay monthly subscriptions

Influential has a wide meaning ... in popular culture, in the development of other games, in the type of game being developed, in the type of games being played? I could go on! In the last few years I would say Halo as its success has spawned a huge number of games trying to copy its success in a similar style and has also caught the imagination of the public (everyone knows Halo) and has a huge fanatical userbase. Is it the best game around, hell no.

Of that list, Halo, just because of it's phenomanal popularity and the impacts that popularity has had on shooters. But, that list is horrible. No Mario? No Zelda? No MGS?

Wut? MGS? Influential?

It's the only game of it's kind, that is supposed to be a stealth game, but you barely stealth in most of its games. It's and Action-Adventure game with the main focus is the story over the gameplay. It's a unique gem.
