Since Crysis has been the ruler of graphics for quite some times most people feel quite used to that idea.

And I was too until Metro 2033 came out.

Now I am stuck between which one looks better.

So what does everyone think?

Which one looks better technically/visually at max settings?

Please explain why you voted for Crysis or Metro 2033 and whether it was because of technical aspects or just visuals.

I'd say Crysis, just because of the scale of the game and what it renders. Metro 2033 has great graphics too. But the game is a corridor shooter meaning that it does not have to render a whole lot like Crysis. Metro 2033 didnt wow me like Crysis did back in 2007.

Everybody jump on the Crysis bandwagon right away because of the size and scale, but I believe Metro 2033 has much more detail than Crysis.

Crysis beats Metro 2033 in visuals.... but Metro 2033 is a far better game.

i think crysis has more eye foolery which makes it look better but technically metro has better graphics and more detail.

EDIT: crysis has much better character models though.

Metro 2033 has a far more detailed world than Crysis, everything has purpose, reason and a story behind it. On a technical level there is not much between them, if anything Metro 2033 is more advanced as it has tessellation and DX11 DoF. Crysis has bigger scale and scope.

I love both games equally, Metro 2033 is so under-rated its not even funny.

Hell no son.

People are making some of the most epic mods for it and still play it.

Meh opinions i guess.

Everyone seems to take the scale of Crysis into account when deciding something like this. Whilst I do agree to some degree, I also have to disagree solely because a large scale or open-world game is a design choice. Not every developer is going to use the same size maps, or larger to accomodate their gameplay and story.

Saying that, I haven't played Metro 2033 on the PC yet, and only on 360. However it even looked great on 360.

Still gonna say Crysis :P

here ya go and while metro 2033 looks amazing nothing can touch crysis except for arma 2 imo which scale is enourmous and packs alot of detail in it.

This thread didn't need loads of Crysis screenshots, everyone knows what it looks like.

Also theres a big difference here in that the Metro 2033 screenshots RUN WELL on average computers, those Crysis ones don't. So in that respect Metro 2033 wins. It looks better for no where near the same amount of power.

They are equal. Metro 2033 is far more detailed and technically better, Crysis has far more scale and more destructiblity. Its hard to say one looks better than the other, totally different settings, its easier to say they are equal. :)

I'm really considering getting Metro 2033, but I'm worried that my comp won't be able to run it.

I can run Crysis on Very High (except for shaders and object details, 2xAA) with no noticable frame rate drops with an 8800gt, core 2 duo E8200, 2gb ram.

But the Metro specs scare me somewhat :P How well optimised is it? Could I run Metro at the same quality as I'm running Crysis now?

Metro 2033 is better looking than Crysis. Sure if you mod Crysis it will look better, but comparing both vanilla version... Metro wins.

if you set metro 2033 to DX9, and lower the res to 720p and use no AA, yeah it will run okay, other than that it runs poorly

Its is not badly optimized. Medium in Metro 2033 is the equivalent of very high in most other games, the 360 version is mix of low and medium.

Its runs better and looks better than Crysis on my rig. Q6600, 4GB and SLI 8800GT, i run Metro 2033 at high settings and get 40-60fps, and the game at high looks simply amazing, its mind blowing.

How is that badly optimized? The game uses more modern tech than Crysis does, it is the most technically advanced game ever made.

You know this is why idon't understandmany PC gamers, they complain when games look like console ports with no extra features, and then when a game comes along that makes use of the latest and greatest video cards they complain the game is badly optimized because it won't run on there ancient rig at max settings.

I run Crysis much better than Metro 2033 on my 9800GT. I couldn't even really play it because of how poorly optimized Metro 2033 was. On medium I was getting such a slow frame rate I had to uninstall it and return it. I was running 2 x 2gb DDR2-800 with a Q9550 at 3.4 ghz on Windows 7 x64.

Although the PC version of Metro 2033 looks very impressive, it doesnt hold a candle to Crysis in the visual department IMO. Crysis is still by far the best looking game ever made. That still doesnt make it the best game though, but since most people these days seem only to care about graphics then its a wonder why everyone isnt gaming on PCs.

I have an 8800GT and I played Metro on directx 10 very high settings at 1440x900.

But then I tried directx 9 very high settings and saw no visual difference so I used that and increased my resolution to 1680x1050.

Game ran smooth for me and since the 8800gt is about the same as the 9800gt I don't see why you are having problems.

I used

AMD Athlon X2 5200+ 2.7ghz

2 gigs of 800mhz DDR2 RAM

Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Nvidia Geforce 8800gt

I am not so sure about that.

There are many areas in Metro 2033 that look better than any I have seen in Crysis and I played crysis on ultra high settings.

Especially the lighted and gaseous fog scenes.

I never did take good screenshots of those scenes but they were jaw dropping

Both for different reasons. Crysis without a doubt is a better game than Metro though; which has some promising ideas but really can't mesh any of them together properly, be it narrative, combat etc.

Metro 2033 might be better in technical terms, but Crysis just looks better, IMO. I might be the only one, but everything in Metro 2033 has this greasy look to it that I really don't like. It was the same with STALKER.

Metro 2033 at 1080p maxed out in DX11 with PhysX on and Tessellation on is the best thing we've seen since Crysis. However I believe Crysis still looks better especially with the Extreme Quality Mod or Lifesis.

Crysis looks great but has boring artistic design imo. Metro 2033 seems to be doing better in that area, although I have yet to play it.
