Um MK 9 is a 3d fighter. Do you not see 3 dimensions?
Asthetics are 3D. Gameplay is on a 2D plane. It's a 2D fighter.

Everything relevant gameplay wise occurs in 2D.

MK 9 is a 2D fighter with 3D graphics and models; you can only jump, crouch, and dash left and right. If you had an ounce of basic common sense, you would've figured that the OP had that in mind with not only the poll, but with the damn thread title itself.

If the OP had some basic communications skills, he wouldn't spout inaccurate information and explain what he means by the obviously ambiguous term "3d fighter" where one can make the assumption of
-Is he talking about the game movement being restricted to 3 dimensions
-Is he talking about the way the visuals are represented (3d polygons transformed onto a 2D monitor)
-Or is he looking for a game that fits both criteria?

No, it's pretty much common knowledge, for the most part, that when saying 2D/3D fighter it refers to the gameplay.
lol @ people STILL not getting the simple concept of 2D vs. 3D gameplay. Â Of course MK9 is a 2D fighter lol. Â Would you call NSMB or DKCR 3D platformers just because the graphics are 3D? Â Of course not.
On topic, not looking forward to any. Â I just prefer 2D fighters.

Would have been good to see Mortal Kombat in the poll. But from the options I voted Dead or Alive. Though Soulcalibur was also in my consideration.
The last MK game was 2D and the next will probably be too, considering every 3D fighter in the series was putrid.Would have been good to see Mortal Kombat in the poll. But from the options I voted Dead or Alive. Though Soulcalibur was also in my consideration.

You do have a point. It's 3D in graphics, but 2D in game engine. Same as this generation of Street Fighter.
So my vote remains unchanged :)
[QUOTE="Clock-w0rk"]When was the last time we had news on this game? I'd love to see Street Fighter characters in a good fighter again (I hate Street Fighter IV and MVC3 with a passion), but I'm beginning to fear that this game is vaporware.Tekken X Street Fighter.

It's not half the game that Third Strike is. Or Super Turbo or Alpha 3 or Alpha 2 Gold, for that matter. The game looks terrible in my opinion, but the gameplay is my biggest problem. There are more comeback mechanics than ever, the input mechanisms have been simplified, the parry system from Third Strike has been almost completely destroyed, and the game is unbalanced (but that's typical of even good Street Fighters, so it gets a pass there). It's slow and the hitboxes are not as precise as they are in 2D. As far as I'm concerned the only good fighting game Capcom has put out this generation is Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and that was developed by Eighting. Thank god Arc System Works and SNK are (somehow) still putting out 2D fighting games. I'm a bit salty that Guilty Gear is going polygonal but as long as it plays good I'll get over it.It's not half the game that Third Strike is. I can agree on the aesthetics, I've gotten used to it but the game looks rough. Â I never liked the new style and I would definitely prefer 2d graphics.
I just have to agree to disagree on the rest though man. Â Its like we played two different games.

What part of there is a Z axis are you not getting through your head? You're the one being thick here man. Â The Z-axis has absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay in MK9. Â Its nothing more than presentation.
The differentiating factor between 2d and 3d fighters has NOTHING to do with having 3d rendered assets vs. 2d sprites.
MK9's gameplay (like all 2d fighters) is strictly limited to the X and Y axes.
Once upon a time it was Killer Instinct. I had such a nerd boner for the concept. Then Microsoft sadly raped the release structure of the game and now I have zero interest. :(
So, of the poll options definitely Sould Caliber. But a new MvC or Mortal Kombat would be quite bodacious.

Doesn't matter, that Z axis is there. It's not like SFIV or KoF where there is no Z-zxis whatsoever. Plus, even if you had a point about it being 2D gameplay completely, it would be 2.5D, not 2D.[QUOTE="ConanTheStoner"][QUOTE="NationProtector"] What part of there is a Z axis are you not getting through your head?NationProtector

Just like any other 2D fighter that uses 3D graphics for presentation.  MK9 is just like SF4 in this regard.
And no, it would not be 2.5D gameplay. Â 2.5D gameplay is something like Little Big Planet in which the player can occasionally move along the Z-axis to progress.
SF4, KoF, and MK9 all have their gameplay locked to the X and Y. Â This makes them 2D fighters. Â Just as the NSMB games and DKCR have Z-depth in their presentation, but they're still just 2D platformers.
If you still refuse to believe these facts, go visit ANY fighting game forum and ask these questions. Â As a matter of fact, you should go to the MK9 boards right now and ask their opinions.

That and they have yet to make a 3d plane that feels natural in fighting games. I always feel like i have to "stop, side walk, continue fight".Please Log In to post.
