Poll Which paid exclusive (timed included) was worth it? Rise of Tomb Raider or Street Fighter V? (53 votes)

Rise of the Tomb Raider 38%
Street Fighter V 62%

Which of the two paid (timed included) exclusive is worth your money? Rise of the Tomb Raider was funded by Microsoft as a timed exclusive now out for Xbox One and PC, and will soon come to PS4 this fall. Street Fighter V is exclusive to PS4 but also out for the PC as well and no plans that it will come out to the Xbox One.

Street Fighter V

Way more overall popular series with lasting PVP.

Wouldn't Dead Rising 3 be a better comparison? Because ROTTR is in no way any form of exclusive.

Lets see; SFV will be supported for all of its run, is never coming to Xbox One and will be used in tournaments for a good long time.

RoTR is a 12 hour game with collectibles and not much else.

Yeah, SFV wins.

Yet RoTR is a complete game and scored very well and isn't an unfinished game.

Yet it has no replayability and will be entirely irrelevant within the next year while SFV will not be.

SFV will continue to get content monthly for a few years while RoTR will die and fade once the PS4 gamers have it and finish it.

So yeah, SFV was more worth the invested money.

Great game. One of the best games of 2015 even. But let's be for real here: as long as that netcode is up and running, SFV will have the staying power RoTR could never accomplish.

Quoted for truth. Street Fighter will be alive for years to come and is the continuation of the number 1 fighting game franchise. A series that's always the premier event at every major fighting game tournament.

It's Capcom... Trusting them is like trusting Ubisoft...

They're releasing a largely incomplete game for crying out loud.... HELLO!!!

Let's see, there's other versions of SFIV because the game is based off an arcade game and making changes to those is an absolute nightmare (hense the multiple BlazBlues and Street Fighters) yet SFV is made for consoles in mind so they don't have to continually port and rebalance it as much.

You dream otherwise though.

Way too early as SF5 is just hitting; we don't work at MS/Sony so how do we know any of the impacts these have had? I do know Spencer himself said there will be no more deals like RotTR before it came out, so I assume they didn't care for the backlash. That said a few sources are reporting the X1 at 19 million sold and I didn't think it was that close to 20 million to be honest. In the end I don't care. Fighting games are like racing games for me. I don't really play them. I bought FH2 and wont be buying 3 as FH2 can scratch the itch to race when I seldom get it. I recently got KI season one with GWG and that can scratch the itch to play a fighter should I get it.

I went with RotTR mostly because I saw the deal being made as SE's way to compete against Uncharted which was at the time scheduled to release in the same window. It's really the only deal of the two that made sense for both sides at the time. SFV being PS4 exclusive really makes little sense since they're basically ignoring almost 20 million potential customers on a brand that sold over 3 million SF games previously.

SE risked very little to avoid being overlooked in favor of Uncharted, which Capcom basically gave the finger to 35% of this gens gamers.

Well SFV will end up selling a lot of PS4s to non current gen console owners and Rise of the Tomb Raider only managed to be a talking point for a month with no bump in sales for xbox one and another money pitt for MS.

Question TC, where did Rise of the Tomb Raider chart on NDP the month it came out?

EDIT:

oopse, just checked, it didn't even chart the month it was released lol that's how much of an impact Rise of the Tomb Raider had for MS on their deal.

Rise Of the Tomb Raider is already yesterday's news. I'm a Tomb Raider fan, but it is typical disposable AAA game with little replay value. Street Fighter V will be played, updated and supported for the rest of the generation.

It's a no-brainer which company got the better deal. The fact that ROTR will be on PS4 later just makes it even more of a clear cut win for Sony.

Street Fighter V is low on content right now, but at least it's a great game.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a bloated crappy mess.

Rise of the Tomb Raider didn't even chart the month it came out and it was on both xbox one and 360, it was a non factor upon arrival. SFV is oceans above it in value, longevity and appeal.

PS4 fanboys are just jealous because they missed out on a great game like RoTR, and they're stuck waiting months for a half-finished game that they will stop playing after a month ;)

Not to mention knowing Capcom's reputation as Scamcom, they will probably hold off certain features for Super Ultra-Mega-Street Fighter Super Tournament E-Sports Edition with a price of $60

And no, there's story mode, which I enjoy. And playing against my brother or a friend. Also, I play multiplayer, just not strictly competitively. I'll put some hours into it, and that will be the end.

RoTR is not a MS funded game. All versions of the game were budgeted for development. MS just paid for the timed exclusivity and marketing rights, which did not amount to much. SFV on the other hand was funded by Sony, which is why it's never going to be seen on Xbox. Much like Ryse and Dead Rising 3 won't be on PS4.

I give up after 5 hours due to how atrocious the writing and Lara are, good thing I've got friends who have finished it and finished th original game myself.

@naughtyottsel: Collectibles and the Expeditions mode. It's not a 12-hour experience unless you rush through the story, but that just isn't how I play video games.

Well seeing as I can't even finish it due to how bad the story is, I think I'll live.

Oh those 2 bits of DLC will totally give it the lasting life of a fighter that'll get monthly updates and DLC for the remainder of its lifecycle~

@undefined:

I'll be getting both. I'm not much of a fan of the new Tomb Raider games, so the end of the year release of it for PS4 will not bother me. Street Fighter V is nice, but it's convenient to wait till it's on sale and everything can be earned.

@naughtyottsel: Never claimed it would outlive SFV. Just corrected your post.

Lets see; SFV will be supported for all of its run, is never coming to Xbox One and will be used in tournaments for a good long time.

RoTR is a 12 hour game with collectibles and not much else.

Yeah, SFV wins.

SFV ?

Capcom are kind of in the bad books, aren't they ?

Tomb Raider actually gave a quality experience....and it was definitely more complete....

I don't really see someone voting for SFV unless they are more of a fighter genre gamer or one of those tree hugger dudes.

Because objectively, Rise of the Tomb Raider wins.

So you deem a game relevant for one playthrough over a fighter with years of content?

You've got to be blind.

Replayabilty isn't the focus of all games. It's not a universal standard that MUST be met by all games.

Relevance isn't acquired through replayabilty.

Not so smart argument you've got there.
