Do you already have a 360? If so, buy a Wii. Theres no point to owning a 360 + PS3. The whole point of multiple systems, for me, is to get new experiences. Most of the great games on both systems are multiplats, or its an exclusive thats equally matched in both genre and quality by something on the other console. There will never be anything like any Nintendo franchise on a PS3/360. The people who own them absolutely hate everything that Nintendo stands for
- bright colors
- platformers
- the idea that decapitations =/=good game by default
- the realization that there are more genres than just shooters
These concepts are completely lost on most 360 or PS3 owners and when developers make games based around this, they are commercial flops, which only encourages them not to make games like this. The Wii offers experiences that you will NEVER get on the other systems. Because of that, I think its always the ideal second system.
If you don't have a 360... well you can buy a 360+Wii for close to the same price as a PS3. I think thats a great deal for the reasons listed above. If you're anti-360, then get a PS3. I think the Wii makes an excellent secondary system, but as of right now, I don't think its enough to be the primary system of a person who also likes more than just Nintendo style game. 2009 looks to change that with a wider variety of titles and more 3rd party support, but I can only guess and speculate about the quality that those games will turn out to be as opposed to knowing what the quality of the PS3's library.
