Of the consoles, the Xbox 360 will have more of a community. I think that's a given.-Tretiak
360 users online will also overwhelm amount of PC users. Mainly because MORE people will buy this on 360 over the other platforms.

You have to be joking. the PC will have more players than everyone. There are more PC gamers than console players combined most likely.
I've been looking atthe Charlie Oscar Delta site for COD4 andit seems the 360version is the most popular over there.
COD4 360 forum has 7792 threads,108,446 posts

I know that doesn't really answer the question but it says something about the game
I am not saying this is proof in ANY way, but it is more of an indication to how many people per system their will be.
This info is how many posts there are on the C'O'D'.com forums:
PC section: 47,807 posts.
XB360 section: 108,454 posts.
PS3 section: 14,597.
To me, this indicates how popular each version will be.

No i'm not joking. Most PC gamers are busy playing WoW and MMO's than worrying about Cod4. And it's dependant on the SALES of the game.
More players does make a difference.
I bought the game yesterday and few people were online. Apparently the game will not be easy to purchase until today.
I could not find enough people to start certain game modes, such as Search and Destroy. I would sit in the lobby for a long time, finally give up, and eventually just look for a game of team deathmatch.
There are a ton of game types in CoD4, so the more people there are online, the better the chances of finding a game you like. I prefer one life types (no respawns), but most people don't like to wait until another game starts...or they like to run and run. The 360 gives you the best chance of playing these type of games since it will have the most people online.
As far as lag in concerned....I played about 100 games yesterday and only two had lag. The problem was caused by somebody on the other team (I play with a group of friends); we backed out of the game with lag and joined another room and no more slowness. The game runs silky smooth.
It's between the X360 and the PC. The PC has more FPSs coming out for it, which may hamper COD4 sales. However, at the very same time, the PC has a huge COD fanbase. COD1 and 2 were huge for competitive teams, hense why COD2 still is one of the most played games to this date on the PC. However at the same time I think there are enough XBL people to probably outshadow the PC playerbase initially.
I think in the short term there will be more COD4 players, but in the longterm more PC players.

gamespot is a really bad demographic for pc gamers
TEH PS3, CUZ IT'S FREEEEE!!!
/sarcasm
c'mon...everyone knows online console gaming belongs to the 360...:)
I'm going to add my thoughts that I believe in time PS3 will eclipse Xbox in the number of online gamers. Last I heard only about 50% of people with and Xbox subscribe to Live, while everyone I know with a PS3 is online. The difference is because one charges the other doesn't. Also since the PS3 is outselling the X360 worldwide that of course makes a difference as well. I think in another year or two. There will be more people playing on Playstation3 online than X360.EmperorSupreme
Online gaming was free on the PS2 but that didn't change anything. PC gaming is also free but you don't hear a million people playing a shooter online. The only games with players in the high numbers are Counter Strike and Counter Strike Source since any PC can play them. It's been like that for many years.

but the 360 will sell more, making it a greater online user base.

Online was added later in the life of PS2 so that's not really an accurate statement. And that's not true about Counter Strike being the only big online game for PC either, but PC doesn't matter since the poster already said his PC won't run it.

I did not say it's the only popular online shooter. If 50 people are playing that means i can get a game and that is all that matters. A lot of people play PC games online but most are stuck playing Counter Strike and MMO. When the game is out the check the stats to see how popular it is.
maybe the x360 has more posts due to beta discussions which the other platforms didnt have, i dunno.I am not saying this is proof in ANY way, but it is more of an indication to how many people per system their will be.
