Bethesda doesn't have anywhere near the amount of money to launch a console.

Only one I'd imagine would be Valve with a Steambox.

One of the few giant publishers. EA tried to launch a console in the past. Anyways, launching and maintaining a console platform is uber expensive. The thread now a days is to launch your own online platform on PC or Mobile. That is more do able and far less expensive and could possibly bring the company more money per dollar spent.

I think Valve is the only one that would have a chance at success, but I'm not sure how they'd do it.

EA- They have sports for one but they have been the best 3rd party publisher by a mile this gen. Quality with around 10 titles a year.

No one publisher has the diversity of IPs required except SEGA, and their management is in disarray and their bank account empty. Bethesda is just a part of Zenimax, and even Zenimax as a whole doesn't have what it takes.

If Activision had launched a COD BOX about 1.5 years ago it would have sold like mad.

EA, they bought out enough IPs to be able to support a console with a good amount of exclusives. Plus, I think they may be able to afford such a move. Though failure could mean the end for them. Bethesda?... they have two succesful IPs (one they recently bought the rights to and have not developed all of the new entries themselves)... that's all a company needs to be able to enter the console market? Seriously? You will buy a console for the two games that company makes? I can excuse this if you guys are like 16 or under.

I suppose EA, but I wouldn'y buy it. Next is Valve, hell the Steambox rumors were just a few months ago.

Only EA would be in the position to do it and incase most people around here are unaware, they are bleeding money.

Bethesda is a game developer owned by Zenimax. They wouldn't/couldn't release a console, Zenimax would. Anyways, to the topic... which could release a console and be financially successful? The only one I could think would be EA. They have a massive workforce and catalog of IP, but I think they choose not to because they prefer having the revenue stream from making every game for every platform.

Atari? Are you kidding? They just closed down their best internal studio (Eden Games) and now pretty much just publish PC/handheld/mobile games. Epic and DICE? That's just asinine.

I resonate with most of the EA sentiment out there, but if turned the conversation toward handhelds I would argue that Square-Enix has the assets to make a run at putting out a handheld to compete with Nintendo. Don't think they have much of an interest to do that, as I'm sure they're perfectly comfortable being a software company, but I think they have enough pull in that part of the industry to carve out a niche for themselves if they so chose.

EA. Don't underestimate the power of sports games, not to mention how many of the companies they've bought. Outside of them, Activision has a shot with CoD and Ubisoft has plenty of IPs as well.
