I have been listening to the musics of the videogames and I wanted to ask this question: Japanese developers or western developers (with western I mean Europe and United States)

West has Jeremy Soule..so I'm gonna have to go with that. Some of what he composed for:
KoTOR
Total Annihilation
Dawn of War
Neverwinter Nights
Morrowind+Oblivion
Dungeon Siege II
West has Jeremy Soule..so I'm gonna have to go with that.

The Best of both worlds
Japanese for the most part. Nobuo, Whoever does the music for Falcom, and Daisuke Ishiwatari are awesome.
some western games have great music too like God of War and Halo, but most Japanese games trump them IMO:

We have a winner (IMO) :P

Never really been a fan of Marty's work..particularly his earlier work on Halo, which all sounded so sameish.
That's a pretty nice track though.
It's just that no video game music composer I've heard really compares to Soule. Every single one of his works is just fantastic.
edit: oops, clarified.

Marty is very good. Not the best out there by any means, but I don't think I've ever heard a track of his I didn't like.I don't really divide my games by which geographic location they were made in. Having said that, I play more Japanese games on average and I would give them the award. Western developers have some great tracks such as the Tristram theme from Diablo series.
I enjoy music from more Japanese developers than Western developers.tagyhag
Your avatar.
Howard Mostrom and his work in Demigod is absolutely amazing. I love Marty O'Donnell's work, but Demigod had such great music.
well...marty is one of the best, but i do love lots of japanese game's musicshadow_hosi
Wow, there is a lot of fail in that quote of yours. :?
Both are great, it all depends on the composer really. That said my favourite soundtrack is easily FFVI's.
Japan has Yoko Shimomura, Nobuo Uematsu, Yuzo Koshiro, Koji Kondo and the Falcom JDK Soundteam.
The End.
FFVI's soundtrack is the best in the series without a doubt. But I dare to say that Chrono Trigger OST is better. Both are great, it all depends on the composer really. That said my favourite soundtrack is easily FFVI's.

I really like whoever worked on the music for the MGS games. Somewhat i'd give it to the Japanese by a litlle. But who cares, every game I play has had enticing music. Except for CoD games, they're always a bunch of electrically composed drums lmao. Take a look at Killzone 2, Halo ODST, and bunch of other FPS games and see how remarkable they can score for the game. IDK it's pretty interesting that CoD games are weak in that department.CleanNJerkI don't like hollywood'ey orchestral tracks in games that much. On the other hand I love ambient tracks in Half-Life and Stalker games. Also electronic tracks can be really cash, like some in HL series. ya definitely...the persona's had some fresh, funky and really catchy OST'sJapanese i really like them for experiment for there sound like Persona series and other franchise

I think that Japanese are still better. FF games have some of the best musics, along with Xenogears, and some other jrpgs.
But god, how i like the Ultima Online OST (even though it's all MIDI and old, it had that "magic" feeling at it's time).
For example, while you logged in, you listened to this song (called Stones) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X1gC3BLq2w&feature=related
And Lord British's Castle Music (althought this one sounds a little different from the one from the game... i think)

Kind of contradicts with my sig, but that's ok. :P
Your sig, while being rich in awesomeness, is also grievously lacking in GUFUness (note, I said GUFU, NOT FUFU :P )
On topic: Best music composer in the industry is Martin O'Donell of the Halo series, hands down. Giving the win to Western devs. Though I have to also give mad props to the FF composer :)
god that brings back memories. :) as for the topic.....both pretty much equals. for every western game with a crackin soundtrack...i can probably think of one from japan to match it.I think that Japanese are still better. FF games have some of the best musics, along with Xenogears, and some other jrpgs.
