Um, why would the PS3 not count when it has one of the best DVD players ever put in a console?????

Because all PS3 owners are gonna click 'yes' since all they do is watch DVD's on their PS3's.

I do not use my console (Xbox) as a DVD player. First, my Xbox is hooked up to a crummy TV. Second, I've always figured a standalone DVD player would be better than paying for the DVD playback kit on the Xbox. Now, do I use my PS3 as a BluRay player? Absolutely. But you didn't ask for that :)

I use my PS2 sometimes when I don't feel like hooking up my DVD player to my TV. 90% of the time I will just use my DVD player just so it doesn't freeze in between scenes or skip / get DRE error.

Yes, simply because I don't want to have to pull out cords to switch between my 360 and DVD player.

I use whatever is convenient and hooked up to whatever TV I am going to be watching the DVD on. I have my old modded original Xbox, which I view divx movies as well as DVD's (without the stupid remote hookup). And sometimes, I use my 360 and I never have problems with it. However, I do not EVER use my PS2... that thing is awful at DVD playback.

Same here. Before I got my 360, I used a DVD player. Then my DVD player crapped out, so I used that (and Gears and Halo and Mass Effect and etc...) as an excuse and picked up a 360.

I do now solely because my HDTV crapped out on me:(. Now I don't have nearly as many hookups in the back so my options were extremely limited.

I do fairly often. Part of the reason I bought the 360 was so that I could have a box to play games, music, and movies all-in-one for a pretty decent price. I realize that DVD players are dirt cheap these days, but since I am a student and my living space is limited, the fewer boxes I have to hook up, the better.

Not to mention you got a sweet new 360... Plus, DVD players can't stream media from your comp to your entertainment center.

I used my ps2 as my only DVD player for quite a while until I got a pc a few years later. I use both now and never felt the need to ever get a stand alone player.

Up until recently, no. I got rid of my old dvd player because no sense in it taking up shelf space if my 360 can do it too

I have used my ps2 and then xbox as DVD players, but now I have a stand alone player that is much higher quality.  Plus, I don't look like a little kid when I have a lady over to watch a movie.

I used to, back when I first got the Xbox. More recently I used my 360 as a DVD player when my regular DVD player went on the fritz.

I use my HD-DVD drive on the 360 via a VGA cable, because it spares the DVD drive on the 360, and upsamples to 1080p. The PS3 doesn't upsample, and has terrible contrast/brightness cutoff. I was surprised when I ran Digital Video Essentials to calibrate both players... it revealed that the DVD player in the PS3 was really crummy. If this is a hardware thing or a software thing, I don't know... but if you have both consoles and a Star Wars DVD, run the THX setup and look at the blacks for the 'THX drop shadow' contrast test. The tutorial says, "Some players are incapable of processing the full range of brighness."  The 360 shows the drop shadow, the PS3 doesn't.

I used to use my xbox for a dvd player. Not that it was necessary, in fact the DVD remote cost as much as buying a cheap dvd player, it was just kind of neat, and meant that I could put the other DVD player on another TV. Last year, I got tired enough with the xbox's dying DVD drive that I just went out and bought another DVD player.

Nah.. ironically, I can't seem to get my sony universal remote commander working with my ps2... so I just programmed it to work with my dvd player instead. Because I like consolidating all my remotes into 1.
