I'm not trying to be negative but I'm not sure if the Sony wand will be successful. The Wii made motion control as a standard controller and that still gets hate and people say it was unsuccessful so I don't beleive that the Wand will work or be as great as they hype it to be. What do you think?

it's probably the least-risky thing they've done since adding 2 thumbsticks to the PS1 controller, it's just there to steal a small marketshare from the wii, it's not like the PSEYE or Natal where it's trying to create a new market

it could still easily fail tho

Me. Peripherals have a very low success rate and the music instruments are the exception rather than the rule. Add to this, the fact that the Sony wand seems to also rely on the PS Eye (which itself, hasn't been very successful) and you have pretty long odds against it.

I don't think it will fail. It's really not ambitious enough to fail. It's a safe little diversion.

Now Natal could really fail hard but it could also be one of the most amazing things this gen,

Its not the hardware im worried about, but the software. I could be wrong, but from what we've heard and seen so far from Sony, it looks as though the wand will be treated just like the eye toys have been. ie. filled with mini games that get old after 5 minutes. Natal could completely bomb as well, but at least it sounds as thought microsoft want to put some serious software behind it

The wands live or die depending on the software support. I frankly don't see Sony supporting this beyond anything more than another high tech but under-utilized peripheral, but i could be wrong.

well, its less risky than natal, since its the Wiimote with M+ in one package. i somehow doubt it will get the kind of support it should though

IDK. Natal seems like a pretty big deal.

1 the six axis is already motion sensive no one uses it hardly,

so 2 yes itll fail ,

it cant be as successful as the wii because wii has sold more already

dont you think its to late for that ne way, wiis 4 yrs old , and still chuging , ,

i dont know why sony does this but this isnt the first time they were late to a party

1 they choose to include only 2 controller ports in 95 when n64 had 4 in 97 in 00 still 2 controller ports but in 06 they finally give the ok to support 7 -yea 3 un used controller lays around, because no one hardly supports four any more aside from wii ,

2 , the motion sensing -done since light guns existed wii took full advatage and people called it a gimmick , i guess they were wrong in wiis case at least ,

because ps3 is coming with its own wiimote, lol , and its a peripheral how dare any one compare a peripheral/add-ons to nintendos console one thing i know about peripherals is that they almost always fail , in comparision to consoles who use it as a first hand -necessary controller

lets face it natal is another eye toy and wand is a wii mote,

360 and ps3 originally geared towards regular standard control-though ps3 had motion sensing in it no one used it except sony,

so i like to know -what you think game party 4 is gonna be like lol ,

Yes it will fail, Natal will also fail if I wanted to get an experience that the wand and natal provide I'd buy a Wii.

I've written this so many times I'm thinking about writing this down somewhere and just doing Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V, but here goes:

Either it will be poorly implemented like the Balance Board, where 0.9% have support for it.

OR

Games (even "hardcore" games) will go all out with it and it'll be forced on gamers who don't want it.

I think the wand is more practical than Natal. It should be easier for developers to use it and it opens up the PS3 for games like Madworld that use motion controls but need a more hardcore audience. Then again it could lead to ports of Wii shovelware. I don't think it will fail, with Sony having games updated to support it and top publishers and developers working on it it may be, dare I say it, successful.

I do not care for the idea, but I am sure it will find an audience.

I agree. History shows us that developers are reluctant to develop specifically for anything other than the standard controller. This is because they don't want to divide their potential audience; Those possessing peripheral X always being fewer than the total number of console owners.

According to some guy on IGN, the wand has a refresh rate of 120Hz and the Wii Motion + has a refresh rate of at least 24MHz meaning the wand is slower and less accurate in comparison.

I doubt it will fail but it's not gonna succed the way sony hope it will. It's basic purpose as I see it is to steal a bit of marketshare away from the Wii with basically the same design and motion control and market the PS3 as doing more for the consumer than a wii would

Probably gonna fail.

In all honesty, if PS3 users wanted a motion controller, they would've gotten a Wii in the first place, but they didn't.

I guess there are a couple of gems on the Wii that if brought to the PS3 would make the wand worthy for a while, but I suspect the fail TBH.

Unless they have both (or all three systems at this point).

Anyway... I'm not even sure if the Arc can even emulate it, but I have fallen in love with the Wiimote's pointer feature. There are times when I play PS3 or 360 and I honestly miss being able to aim the way I do in MP3.

Depends how they market it. If they market it to the existing customers make it more orientated for their current install base it might find a good niche group within to keep it afloat.

If they try and market it towards families, trying to take a chunk out of nintendos market it will definately fail. Not enough games and the PS3 is just too expensive when compared to the Wii. It will also alienate the core users of the PS3 who will shun it if all they get is mini games from it.

Chances of success are slim i'd say even if i'm keen to own one.

Me, I believe it will be niche at best. I actually have more hope for Natal, but that isn't saying much because Natal I think is just a glorified eye toy, doomed to a similar level of usage in the market.

From the E3 demonstration, I think that the Sony Wand is certainly capable enough to be a success on a technical level. I think that the software will make or break it, and the level of software support is going to depend heavily on how much Sony decides to charge for the Wand.

i see it selling very well.. lets not forget that sony hasALOT of first party support, something microsoft lacks.. and lets face it, first party games are gonna sell the most.
