Who had the better First Party Games? Xbox 360 or PS3?

You missed GT6 on the PS3 side , and a lot of Kinect games on the 360 side.

Both have great libraries.

PS3 its not even close. You're also missing some first party games like Puppeteer, Journey, Gran Turismo 6, Heavy Rain etc

Xbox 360 had it going until 2010, they lay back on the exclusive and just focus on Kinect games that nobody ask for.

You are missing some games. At first glance - Heavenly Sword , Heavy Rain , Beyond Two Souls , Puppeteer , GT6 , LittleBigPlanet 3 , and LAIR !!!. You're going to have to do a lot more research.

I wasn't really blown away by either first party lineup. I preferred the third party exclusives on both. I guess I'd go with Sony.

It was their attempt to gain the rights to what they saw as their IP and their game.

Crackdown, Gears of War, Blue Dragon, (and I am sure many others) aren't first party games.

Heavenly Sword, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, and Lair aren't first party games.

@skektek: then technically neither are the ratchet games as sony does not own insomniac. But, like with the quantic dream games beyond two souls and heavy rain, they do own the IPs of ratchet and clank and resistance.

360 by far. Most of the PS3's games were serious, "cinematic" shooters.

It's kind of sad that considering the PS and PS2's history of massive variety, the PS3 came up incredibly short.

Overall the PlayStation 3, however they both had some great games regardless of which side of the fence you were on.

I'd say it's a tie, though i would be leaning more towards the PS4 had Sony made a power metal Singstar game

This comparison would have been alot worse if it was about Exclusives and not just First Party Exclusives.

PS3 had better 1st party exclusives, and by the end of the gen also better 3rd party exclusives (although admittedly many of them were remasters, stuff like Kingdom Hearts 1.5 are awesome to have on PS3).

The only advantage 360 had was certain multiplats, but that advantage is meaningless now - who is still playing multiplats on legacy console?

MS owns the IP as Sony does with Demon's Souls. If DS counts so do they.

PS3 had 3 GOTY's, a perfect 10/10 and a top 4 and top 5 GOAT for exclusives.

PS3 was the run away winner as far as exclusives go.

I definitely give PS3 the win for 1st party exclusives (Xbox's first party does not really appeal to me). I would only give PS3 the win for 3rd party exclusives if we are only counting full retail games, but if we also count Arcade/Indie games (and we should) then Xbox 360 wins that category. There were many games that I got from XBLA last gen that I enjoyed more than most full retail games.

And the 360 had plenty of other advantages over the PS3 besides just the superior version of most multiplats, such as a far better online service, a far better controller, a better OS/User Interface, a better marketplace, and quicker DLC to name a few.

sony owns those IP, which makes them first party. Second party exclusive doesnt exist. Its either third party(owned by the third party dev) or first party(owned by the publisher)

People seem to get confused by hired hands. There are second party developers, BUT NOT 2nd Party games as you noted well. The product the contracted developers were hired to make is owned by the 1st party. Whether that be when Nintendo hired Tecmo to make a Metroid game, Capcom hiring GrIN to make a Bionic Commando game, M$ hiring developers to pump out a Crackdown sequel, Konami hiring a company to crank out a Castlevania or Metal Gear title (Platinum), or Sony hiring to crank out a Heavenly Sword by Ninja Theory (Red_Cloak pwnage on Classic SW LOL).

The IP holders hired developers and paid for those games, and the product the hired hands create with full funding from the IP holder is a 1st party product.

They are first party games. They are not games made by an internal first party studio, but the end result is still owned by the IP holder.

Marvel Comics and DC Comics for instance hire artists and writers for X-Men, Superman, Batman, Avengers, etc....The talent shifts between both companies all the time, but the products those hired hands create are still owned by Marvel or DC.
