It wont perform any better then the 7900 GT, better off with the 8800 GTS 320 MB like I did, costs more but its way better visually.

I would wait till they release Crysis and see what is out there then...the cards will be cheaper by then hopefully and there will be plenty of sites running benchmarks to make your decision a lil easier

This would be a question more suited for the PC Hardware board but I can answer it here.

A 8600 GTS will be more than enough to play Crysis on high settings with a good resolution.

You should also remember that it is not just the GPU that makes a game beautiful. You need a quality CPU, RAM, PSU and cooling system to have an efficient platform for gaming.

BS. my 8600GT xxx runs like mad, its small, quiet, consumes only 46wr and is faster playing H.264 videos. oblivion and stalker run A LOT better compared 2 my old 7900gs. get your facts straight. most reviews dont know what they are talking. ( lol if its not a 8800 is trash!) dumbasses. the 8800 is a friking OVEN! consumes a lot of power, is noisy. im happy playing my games at 1024 x 768 4xAA full details at 100FPS baby!

Get a 8800GTS 320MB instead. Sure, it's more expensive, but if you want to play Crysis with a lot of the eye candy turned up, go for the 8800. The 8600GTS will run Crysis, but I wouldn't expect stellar performance. Benchmarks show that the 8600GTS is only a wee bit faster than the 7900GT, which, although a good card and relatively powerful and should run Crysis fairly well, would probably only be able to play at around medium settings.

Yeah benchmarks shows that 8600GTS has better perfromance but that isn't the case in game.

7900GT kicks 8600GTS ass.

I would get the 8800 GTS 320mb, its only slightly behind the 640mb but it costs almost $100 less and only slightly more than the 8600 GTS. I really dont think either will cut it for Crysis on Max though so im waiting for the new line (either 9xxx series or ATis refreshed 2xxx series)

Go with the 8800GTS 320mb. You can find it for under $250 if you look around. Or you can wait a bit for a price drop and it will be much cheaper. Anyways, this should be in the PC Hardware Forum.

I'd only really advice the 8800 series. If you need a serious upgrade, just buy a computer with an 8800 series card. I got myself an 8800gtx with my new computer and only one word can desribe it- fantabulicious.

Indeed. In my other thread(Hopefully still on the first page) I tallied up the total of a great comp for only 800 and something. With a 8600 GTS.

Lol you post results with overclocked 8600GTS and only shows one game to showcase the performance.

I also thought the guy wanted the card to play games...

I can post tons of reviews that shows 8600GTS lack of performance.

If you wanna play Crysis... Then I suggest you wait till Crysis is released. Then look for Crysis benchmarks for all the DX10 cards. Then choose.

The advice from those in the know right now is, if you want to play the current games that are out (dx9) go for a x1950pro (512mb is nice) as it will slaughter the 8600 and give the 8800's a run for their money bang for buck it cant be beaten.

If you really really want a dx10 card then at least get a 8800gts 320mb.

There are some things to think about though, the 8 series driver support particularly for Vista is at the min **** and also these are the first dx10 capable cards so therefore they probably wont max crysis out (the developers themselves have stated the engine have to wait for tech to catch up to maximise it).

From everything I have read about the 8600 it never comes recommended because it simply doesn't perform well enough given what else is out there.
