With so much games and so little money, i find it not worth to experiment with games scored lower then a 9. And it seems like a 9 is the new 7.5 these days, like every other game gets a 9 these days

Nope. I don't generally conform to games popular by review. I go off what I would enjoy, and read reviews for a general jist.

I usually draw the line around 6.5 or so (on GR or Metacritic). Only purchasing titles in the AAA range really limits your gaming options.

So essentially what your saying is you personally don't buy games under 9. I guess it's safe to say you've missed a lot of great games this generation.

With so many games out there now, it's hard to stand out and get a higher score, which is why you see so few.

If you really limit yourself to buy 9's and above, you're just being lazy, or elitist, or some combination of the too. If one of you favorite franchised had a game released that got an 8.5, you would immediately ignore it? That's absurd.

Recent games: MW2, AC2, ME2. Hmm.. maybe you're right. Or it's just a coincidence. If I think a game looks good I buy it; if we only bought AAA games then gaming would die.

I've bought games that receive 5s and even 4s. I buy a game based on my own interest and my own taste, not another reviewer's.

That's just Crazy. I bought WKC which was rated 6.5 here on GS and 5.1 on IGN. Its one of my favorite RPG's. Anyone who buys a game based off one persons opinion is crazy.

Yeah, 9 or above for me. :P All my next-gen games are either 9 or above. I refuse to buy anything lower.

I don't really care what the "score" is, it's what the reviews have to say about the games that helps me decide if I should buy it right away, rent it, wait till it gets cheaper or not get it.

My rule is I dont go for games that dip below a 70 overall on Metacritic. Pretty standard rule that has gotten me nothing but excellent games.

I buy very few games now a days so only 9 and better for me, and there are still a lot of AAA games I end up having to skip. Play AA games and stuff, I just won't buy them.

That's ridiculous; So I should follow some other person's opinion and put it over my own? If I did that, then I should just quit gaming altogether. :P

Naw. R&C Future: Tools of Destruction was a great, memorable game that was polished and highly enjoyable until the end, and Gamespot gave it a 7.5. Dante's Inferno will be a fun, albeit repetitive, functional action game with over-the-top blood and boobies, and that's a 7.5. I'm still considering WKC because I've heard great word of mouth, and that's a 6.0. I definitely will buy a 90+ metacritic game sight unseen if it strikes my fancy though, I don't need to try a demo if I get an aggregate opinion from GS, IGN, Eurogamer, Gametrailer, and 1UP. Limiting yourself to only 9.0+ Gamespot games is simply not enough gaming for me. I have tons of games like Borderlands I haven't devoted enough time to, but I love having them for a rainy day.

So you play only 3-4 games a year? Unless of course you have more than 1 platforms but even so you wont be playing more than 6-8 games a year BTW a review is an opinion . Sure is good to avoid games that universally get scores lower than 6-6,5 but alot of 8-8,5 games are better than alot of 9+ games and you shouldnt go only by reviews. If possible play a demo and see if you like it

Your right. After all game reviews are subjective. One persons 5 can be another persons 9. since there is no objective reviewing criteria there can be no absolute answer. Only buying 9's really limits you choices to games that may not be as great as "they" say.

i put far greater consideration into what genre it is. if its a genre I really like, which is pretty much only adventure games i give it lots of leeway score wise. but when it comes to fps and action games im more strict. as for the other genres? they can go f themselves

Due to budget constraints I can't buy as many games as I would like to, so the only ones I actually pay for are ones that I think will offer a long campaign or a good amount of replay value with multiplayer. If a game meets those criteria I will buy it, regardless of review score. As it happens, the last 3 games I bought are all AAA.

Good research and trying a demo are two much better ways at making sure your money isn't wasted that limiting yourself to reading someone else's opinions.

I don't even listen to reviews anymore. I just read to see what the game is like -- what the reviewer thought was good or bad about it and what was an issue to them and not -- then I look at what other reviews say and find what is consistent. Though usually I already know ahead of time I want a game, regardless of the reviews it receives.

I don't even pay attention to scores of most games or will forget it as quick as we stop talking about it here. So my decisions in purchasing games aren't influenced by scores at all.

I buy games based on interest not scores... I was heavily interested in Too Human and I bought it... glad I did too because had I listened to reviews I would never have known its actually a FUN game that ive put almost 50 hours into.

I work full time and attempting to get some master degrees... I don't have too much time to play games so I use the reviews/scores to guide me (usually 8.0-10) and then I choose the games from that pool which interest me the most. I barely get 1-2 hours every other day to play (weekends can be good though) so this method helps me prioritize.

If I had more time, I would get as many games as possible no matter the score. Too bad reality strikes and you got to put in some time to bring home the bread.

I ONLY buy games that interest me and that appeal to my tastes. This has nothing to do with scores. I would guess the average scores my game collection gets is 8s. In fact, some of the games I consider to be my favorites of all time only scored 8s.

So in my opinion, ANYONE who cares about what SCORE a game got, as opposed the real real point of a review...the WORDS...should just stop gaming altogether.

oh absolutely.....if it scores less than 9 then its not worth squat. also i only go but the score..the actual review counts for nothing. :P seriously...im actually enjoying and looking forward to games that are either highly unlikely to get a 9 or higher...or havent. im even looking forward to a game (endless ocean 2) that has scored les than an 8 on metacritic.....the HORRROR!!!

I don't really care if it gets 9 or not. Especially here on GS.

I get the games I'm interested in and that I think will be worth my money.
I always seem to disagree with most reviews.

Scores at this site are pretty much useless to me. There are games that have scored 6/10 that I consider better than games scoring 9.5 around here.

Indeed. Take Warhawk for example, it was a flop here in system wars. But I enjoyed that game more than Halo 3. I've also bought Godfather 2 for PS3, I loved that game. Even thought GS gave the game a whopping 4.5, the score didn't affect my overall experience with the game. Next I'm looking into Dante's Inferno and possibly AvP. Don't play scores, you'll miss out on great games.

should probably add i do read reviews and the score does have a bearing on my purchase for instance i can deal with below par graphics and sound even the story if its a FPS/3rd person shooter (im an RPG nut so the story is the main thing for me with an RPG) but if something has its score cut drastically because of the actual gameplay mechanics i will have a look at the more critical reviews to asses how broken/bad it may be a game doesnt have to be pretty but if playing the game is frustrating then the game has failed to do its primary purpose and entertain you.

I haven't bought a game rated less than a 9.0 here on GS in a long time, but that's purly coincidental. If I want the game a score below 9.0 isn't going to deter me from buying it.

no your messing out on alot of great games by doing this alot of my favorite games have only scored AA or A. I tend to draw the line at 7.0 but am willing to buy gamest hat scored lower if i think i may like them and the review was bad like zeno clash, league of legends, and demigod.

People who judge games only upon reviews, are missing out some awesome games. For example, Lost Odyssey got a 7.5, but that is by the best next gen RPG i have played (excluding Persona 4)

No, I can usually come to my own conclusion from a combination of reviews, gameplay videos, and previews. From that I decide whether to rent or buy titles I am interested in.
