With so much games and so little money, i find it not worth to experiment with games scored lower then a 9. And it seems like a 9 is the new 7.5 these days, like every other game gets a 9 these daysjetslalomSo essentially what your saying is you personally don't buy games under 9. I guess it's safe to say you've missed a lot of great games this generation.
for me sometimes score does not dictate quality i have a few games that had poor reviews on here and i enjoyed them more than some of those higher rated.Trust me dont go on review scores your missing out on some very good underrated games.

With so many games out there now, it's hard to stand out and get a higher score, which is why you see so few.
If you really limit yourself to buy 9's and above, you're just being lazy, or elitist, or some combination of the too. If one of you favorite franchised had a game released that got an 8.5, you would immediately ignore it? That's absurd.
I've bought games that receive 5s and even 4s. I buy a game based on my own interest and my own taste, not another reviewer's.
My rule is I dont go for games that dip below a 70 overall on Metacritic. Pretty standard rule that has gotten me nothing but excellent games.
I buy very few games now a days so only 9 and better for me, and there are still a lot of AAA games I end up having to skip. Play AA games and stuff, I just won't buy them.
Games that score 8 are still good games. Sometimes better than some 9 games.Parasomniac
Your right. After all game reviews are subjective. One persons 5 can be another persons 9. since there is no objective reviewing criteria there can be no absolute answer. Only buying 9's really limits you choices to games that may not be as great as "they" say.
I own games ranging from 6 to 10. However, I only own game game scoring 6 - Siren. And it's just amazing; I think it was a little underrated.
Good research and trying a demo are two much better ways at making sure your money isn't wasted that limiting yourself to reading someone else's opinions.
Got Cel Damage at the launch of the original Xbox it was awesome 4 player split screen. Link
Recently I have got Bioshock 2 PC (Still unreviewed i think) , Forza 3, Dragon Age, Uncharted 2, NSMB(8.5), Halo: ODST, and I finally picked up Civ4 on steam with it's expansions.
I work full time and attempting to get some master degrees... I don't have too much time to play games so I use the reviews/scores to guide me (usually 8.0-10) and then I choose the games from that pool which interest me the most. I barely get 1-2 hours every other day to play (weekends can be good though) so this method helps me prioritize.
If I had more time, I would get as many games as possible no matter the score. Too bad reality strikes and you got to put in some time to bring home the bread.
I ONLY buy games that interest me and that appeal to my tastes. This has nothing to do with scores. I would guess the average scores my game collection gets is 8s. In fact, some of the games I consider to be my favorites of all time only scored 8s.
So in my opinion, ANYONE who cares about what SCORE a game got, as opposed the real real point of a review...the WORDS...should just stop gaming altogether.
Scores at this site are pretty much useless to me. There are games that have scored 6/10 that I consider better than games scoring 9.5 around here.

should probably add i do read reviews and the score does have a bearing on my purchase for instance i can deal with below par graphics and sound even the story if its a FPS/3rd person shooter (im an RPG nut so the story is the main thing for me with an RPG) but if something has its score cut drastically because of the actual gameplay mechanics i will have a look at the more critical reviews to asses how broken/bad it may be a game doesnt have to be pretty but if playing the game is frustrating then the game has failed to do its primary purpose and entertain you.not me i buy 2-4 games a month between the PC and PS3, if i stuck to 9+ rated games i would have missed out on so many great games.

I haven't bought a game rated less than a 9.0 here on GS in a long time, but that's purly coincidental. If I want the game a score below 9.0 isn't going to deter me from buying it.
i check 5 review sites and If any say less than 9 then I know it is a horrible useless waste of money and space and do not buy.King_Dweedleplease tell me your joking?
