Just wondering if the latest news has changed people's opinons.  *IF* one of the three console makers of today were to fail, which one would it be.  And when I say fail...I mean go the way of Sega and stop making consoles.

Please bump it to the top if you vote by making a comment that you voted.

If one of them were to go out, it'd probably be Nintendo, because they're the only company on the list dedicated to just games. Sony has a huge entertainment division to bring in money (movies, music, etc.) and MS has the PC market, but Nintendo just has games.

Highly doubt any of them would just stop making consoles like dreamcast.

Fall? Multinational companies worth billions fall?

Oh wait... Sega...

Microsoft could never go bankrupt, this is fact (Windows, 'nuff said). Nintendo could never go bankrupt, this is fact (they always profit on their products). Sony is the only company that has the possibility of going bankrupt but this is extremely unlikely seeing as it is only the gaming division who has not seen profits over the last year.

thats what consoles are really for, GAMES!!! everything else is just bells and whistles. if they dont have good games, the other stuff is irrelevant. back to subject, i dont think any one of them will fall. MS is going strong, and looks to continue. nintendo has successfully found an undiscovered market, and as long as quality games come out, it will stay strong. Sony started off slow, but with promising titles like MGS4, FFXIII, and DMC4, they can get back in really quickly

I'm talking about fall by pulling out of consoles. Not going bankrupt. For example, if PS3 fails Sony may not go bankrupt but instead could choose to sell off the PS namebrand or just stop making consoles to help stop the losses.

None of the above.  Too many different strengths for each.  Nintendo's lock on the hand held market is in my opinion, untouchable.  Unless they can prove the DS or GBA causes cancer or death from exposure I don't see them ever going 3rd party.

DMC4 is multiplat and is now being boycotted by die-hard sony fans. So they really only have MGS4 and FFXII. FFX is the only system seller Sony has left.

I believe if the 360 "fails" meaning if MS loses 9 billion again or however much they lost with the xbox, I could see them rethinking this whole console thing.

There is no way that either console maker quits. All of the consoles are selling right now (some more than others). The gaming market gets bigger and bigger with more people playing games now. I voted for none. However if I was forced to chose one of the 3 then I would probably pick sony. I think Sony has the least to lose by getting out of the console market (as long as they kept making games)

I do see M$ trying to merge the PC and Console market. Or making the console more of a commodity like the PC is. But changing the market to one's advantage isn't losing.

Funny, I see them with the most to lose. Like being able to force new formats down people's throats to support their Movies. To me Ninty has the least to lose by going multi-plat. They could easily make a wiimote for the 360 or PS3 and then release games for one or both of the remaining systems. It would help sell the other systems and they could worry about making more great games and keep away from making more junk hardware that is overpriced.

I think they'll all stay afloat. If one were to fall though, it would probably be Microsoft or Sony.

so the 360 only has mass effect and halo3, see i could do what you did

It's not as much of a question of "Which console will fall?" as it is a question of "which game developer will fall?"

Nintendo has its own corner of the market. Sony and MS can't TOUCH it. A friend of mine with the 360 and three kids borrowed my Wii from me because the 360 wasn't family friendly in his opinion. His WIFE - who hates video games - wants to buy the family one for christmas.

Microsoft can pump billions of dollars into the 360 without a second thought, so even if the 360 starts to fail, they can revive it with a large sum of cash. MS won't LET the 360 fall.

Now, Sony is looking a bit haggard right now, but Sony has always been able to pull through. Has anyone been keeping up with PS2 games coming out these past two years? Everyone said that PS2 would die once Halo 2 came out, but Sony has been able to defend the PS2 so far. I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 sales match the 360 next year.

None. But if one were to fall I have to say it would be nintendo. Not after the wii though. It would have to be when they take a risk with a console again. Wii is using dated hardware so they're making money even if it doesn't sell, which it is doing anyway so the wii is not taking any sort of risk. Sony and Microsoft make money from other things. Sony do god knows how many other products and microsoft has windows. They will always have enough money to make new consoles. All nintendo have is gaming. If they make a risk with a future console and it fails then its bye bye to nintendo consoles, just like sega.

@those talking about the "next" series of consoles:

Many people are predicting that there won't BE a "next" series of consoles. That is because graphics can only be SO realistic, and you can't really make a console that has more graphical potential than the 360 and PS3. Nintendo is something else. My hunch is that the next series of consoles won't be consoles at all, but computers that integrate with everything else.

Just an opinion, though.

no one will be quitting this gen (hell we may see a new contender). next gen....i doubt anyone will call it a day either. gen after that....no idea. sony have an awful lot riding on the PS3. to pull out would be far worse for them than to sell less consoles than the competition. sony have a 75% market share to defend, a new processor and a new HD video technology to push and they have a crap load of resources tied up in games developement. to pull out would be a complete disaster. besides its still early days for the PS3. chances are it will turn a profit by the end of its life. it probably wont be as high as the PS2 but itll be profit which is the main thing...and probably quite alot of it too. In alot of ways MS have the least to loose by pulling out. the only thing there trying to push besides the 360 and live itself is media center functionality and they have pretty much stopped pushing that element. if they did pull out, they could implement alot of live features into vista (something there doing anyway). however at the moment they have little reason to pull out. MS games studio expects to be turning profit from the 360 soon (if there not doing so allready). there ahead of the competition and theyre holding their own quite nicely. Nintendo could go multiplat but, again, they have absolutely no reason to do so. their hardware divisions have been bringing in money by the barrel load over the last 2 years. The DS and Wii have both sold very well and theres no sign of them letting up. The GC and N64 also managed to turn profits by the time they were finished. It could be argued that they would sell more software by going multiplat but try telling them that now.

None.

The only reason sega went third-party was because they made a lot of bad moves not just dreamcast.  All the genesis add-ons that never sold (Sega CD, Sega 32X), Sega Saturn, and by the time they got to Dreamcast they were in the red (meaning they weren't making any $$$$).

To think Sony is going fail is either fanboyism or just plain stupidity afterall both the PS1 and PS2 sold over 100 million units.  Plus the PS2 is still selling strong.

Nintendo isn't going to go either since they always make a profit off their consoles.

Microsoft definetely won't considering they got close to a infinite amount of money (billions).
