Well, the PS1 sold over 100 million and the N64 sold about 33 million.
The N64 had some classics like Super Mario 64 and Zelda:Ocarina of Time, but the PS1 had much stronger 3rd party support and had many moregreat games, with more variety.
The thing is... N64 had Zelda OoT.... But, I guess the PS1 did win because of the amount of sales.... and that is when Nintendo lost Squaresoft because Square did not want to use the N64 carts for their games.
N64 won in games..... (Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64 & Zelda: OOT) some of the most fun I've had playing games ever, right there in those 4 games.
i'll have to go with n64 for my favorite of that gen, just because I still play goldeneye with my friends to this day. ps1 only had a few of my favorites like mgs1 and final fantasy 9, while n64 had more of my favorites, such as bond, mario 64, zelda, conker. (i'm not a very big fan of final fantasy 7 jsut because it doesn't make me want want to go back and replay).
N64 was better, I loved my ps1 but the loading times were too long and the games broke if they got scratched just a little bit. Plus ps1 games had very blocky character models in alot of games. N64 games had like no textures on the character models.
PlayStation, and the war fought here was initially PlayStation vs Saturn, which PlayStation knocked out of the water.c_smithii
It was more blown out of the water. The Saturn's demise was down to the complete and utter ineptitude of Sega's management, which is a shame because it did have some great games.
Anyway back on topic, the PS1 won through hardware/software sales because they gave the gamers what they wanted. That's what they have to try to do with the PS3.
For me though, I had way too much fun with my N64. It's my favorite console. Banjo, Zelda, Mario, Starfox 64, even some of the less praised games like Pokemon Snap I really enjoyed.
Pokemon Snap was actually quite awesome. I wish they would make a sequel with a lot more to do and you can share pictuers with your friends and stuff and interact more with the pokemon.
