I think most people are at least somewhat surprised by how well the Wii is doing, but the real question is, how long will this last? If the quality games continue to mostly come out of the Nintendo camp, will the Wii merely turn into a more successful N64/Gamecube?
Honestly I'm glad its Nintendo instead of Microsoft. God I remember when 360 came out and all the 360 fan-boys were like *annoying voice* "teh 360 has won the console war", I'm glad Nintendo shown them whats what.
Wii isn't king, its bought by many non hardcore ppl. its basically in a leage of its own
360 is king over PS3 cause there is no third competition.

How ignorant this post is :\
Casuals=Gamers
I agree that it is in its own League butit is still in the Competition, that is like saying PS2 was in a league of its own because it had so many Non Hardcore gamers buying it.Wii isn't king, its bought by many non hardcore ppl. its basically in a leage of its own

i didnt. and im quite happy it did, ive always said that competition is good for us customers. it forces microsoft, sony and nintendo to make good systems. So if nintendo had made another "flop" (gamecube wasent succesful at all) they might had decided to go allout handheld.
I do hope however that the system will get more quality games. It doenst have alot atm, and ive got some freinds who are now starting to complain about that, and the technical limitations on their wii. mustly they complain that they cant download demo's and that they only have 500mb hd. And lately one have canceled a preorder on Guitar hero3 because it only supports mono and not 5.1 or stereo(even though it must be a software problem rarther than a problem with the wii's hardware). They are also pretty annoyed that you can get an xbox 360 premium with HDMI at the same price as a Wii (here in Denmark at least).

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that "every sane person" statement. The Gamecube came out at $200, and it didn't make nearly the splash the Wii has so far. I think what people didn't count on is the fact that the Wii really does appeal to people who don't play videogames. In terms of traditional gamers, I think it's probably still in 2nd or 3rd place sales-wise, but many people who don't have the time to play in-depth games, or simply don't want to play anything more complicated than Wii Sports have gone the route of the Wii, because it's much more casual-friendly than any system before it.
Whether that's good or bad has yet to be decided...
