This pretty much sums up FFXII. Awesome game and STILL worth playing.

i thought the story was terrible
worst story in a FF game since FF5
gameplay was also very repetitive and dull, having characters on auto attack most of the time
FFX was a far better game
if it wasnt for FFX the entire ps2 era of FF games would have been pathetic..
I love it. Second best FF ever made imo :)_Tobli_What is first?

Umm. Wasn't there only FFX and FFX-2 on the PS2?

The one in your sig. :)
I think it's #3, IMO. After FFVI and FFIV.
I thought it was poorly done by final fantasy standards. The battle system was well excecuted but got very boring after a while. It was basically watching AI that you programmed. The character developement was pittiful at best. Also, the game had essentially NO MINI-GAMES! One good thing about it was the great FF tacticesque storyline. The plot came together quite well.
As a standalone RPG, it's a great buy i suppose.

This is the case with almost any real-time party-based RPGs. You HAVE to turn over majority control to the AI. This is why i don't understand the hate towards turn-based RPGs. At least turn-based RPGs give you full tactical control over your characters.
The problem with Final Fantsy 12 is gameplay. For the 80 plus hours I spent with game. I actually didn't play. I sat there holding the controller in my hands watching my characters fight on screen. While the gambits (AI) did everything. If i'm not playing the game then IT ISNT GAMEPLAY.
Throughout the game I only changed my gambit system about 4 times. The problem with FF12 is that the game is too simplified and too shallow. The game requires no skill. And No real strategy (Except with special bosses).
The characters lack individuality. The license board adds no depth or strategy to the gameplay. The game is seriously lacking.
Heck, even Xenosaga 2 might have better gameplay than FF12.
I killed 5 + bosses instantly just byusing quickenings (limit breaks). During the so called "gameplay" (which your not even playing the gambit sytems do everything).
The Second problem with FF12 is that the characters are not developed. They are not three dimensional. They are just there for the events that happen in the story. They do not grow and develope and change significantly.
The story is also another problem. While the story has more mature themes than some of the other FF games. It is not developed. We get bits of information. But it is not as well organized as some of the other games in the series. The story and characters are not developed.
Shallow gameplay Undeveloped characters and story.
Quite simpy if you like deep gameplay, story, and characters you are not going to like this game.
It was the best for me but I'm 28 and love politics.;) .......not gushy sappy love stories!i thought the story was terrible

FF12 was just a rip off of star wars the political situation was the same thing....
FFX had much better symbolism, the yevon religion was an obvious jab at christianity, they also represented the nihilist philosophy well with seymour, as well as addressing the age old question is life worth living with the endless life and death cycle that sin brought...
FFX is the most brilliant story ever made
FF12 is garbage star wars with different characters

Exactly. Me, too. Final Fantasy was going down the road of cheese and cliche. It's what's been ruining Final Fantasy since VII.

ZOMG, Christianity symbolism! I'm SOOOOOOO impressed!
FFX was garbage beginning to end. It takes no creativity to write a story predicated entirely on deus ex machina. And Seymour as an antagonist was pathetic.
When you come right down to it, FFX's story literally is just a pumped up version of the "It was all a dream" cliche.

Even though i liked FFXII's battle system alot , politics or not. You NEED an emotional love story or some sort of connection like that or else it's not FF. It just makes the game that extra special. I have no doubt that if FFXII had a more engaging story for the mainstream FF fanbase it would be the best JRPG ever created.
