Because MS will make a profit. Think about it they paid $25 mil a piece for both episodes. Say they only charge 800ms points ($10) an episode (I think it will be 1200 or $15) and 3 million live subscribers purchase it. Do the math. $30 mil. That's with using low figures 10 bucks and 3 million purchasers. This is why we pay for live. That 20 cents a day doesn't seem so harsh now does it?

Or is it because all 360 owners have a HDD with their console? The fact is when it comes down to it, eventually PS3 will be getting content as well, just at a later date. Theres nothing really boast about in this fact. You pay 50$ for a service that might be overcomed by Home or the new Wii service which are both for free. Besides the fact that most PC gaming is already, there isn't much advantage to Live over the other services.

They may not make all $50 Million back, but they'll make a good amount back and people who have both 360 and PS3 will get 360, plus it'll help sell consoles when people hear 360 version is better.

lol i find it funny how the OP thinks that 5 million people will download the eposodic content and the if Take-2 charge $10 that M$ gets 100% of the $$ ...

Lets see i assume Take-2 will want 25% of the price charged ($2.50) and the server cost will be ($0.50) ... Soo ...

Lets see Microsoft gets $7 per eposode of content.
they paid $50 million for 2 eposodes to be exclusive ...
and you think that 7.14 total or approx 3.55 copies of each eposode will be sold ... so what 65% of users with live will buy both eposodes ....

Truth is mate that Microsoft just wanted to claim GTA IV is better on 360 -- and they payed for it ...

Microsoft didn't pay Rockstar anything, they loaned them the money as an advance for the 2 episodes. The content is exclusive so until an official announcement is made it is 360 only.

"Typically, Microsoft and third-party publishers split the revenue generated when players download games from Xbox Live. Games usually cost $10 or less, but Microsoft could charge $20 or more for the additional Grand Theft Auto IV episodes, depending on how many hours of playing time they offer. So the $50 million for Take-Two appears to be a sort of advance on royalties."

Ms dont lose a dime in this deal, If they dont make their $50 million back then R* have to pay the diffrence and if they do then i assume that both will start to make some money with most of it going to R*.

I think it was a no brainer fro MS. Take 2 has to repay the 'loan' if it doesn't meet certain criteria for sales. What does MS have to loose?

Can't Microsoft just do this -

Silver memebership - can't play games online, must pay for extra content, can watch and download demos./Chat with friends...

Gold Memebership - Play games online, Donwload the contents like GTA Packs for FREE!! Since they are paying already. Also make some content exclusive to gold memebers only. And last but not least....Lower the price for XBL!!!!.....

Xfire ftw..... GTAIV will feature tons of microtransactions, I can see it already, as MS needs to recoup their investment some way or another. It started with horse armor and now this. It's one thing to have expansion packs with new content, but to also pay for a P2P service and then for microtransactions on top of that is pathetic. Just about every non-MS affliated journalist will commments about this too.

lol. Three million live subscribers aren't going to buy it. It's not going to push very many consoles either. If Microsoft was smart they would have put the budget into a new franchise or something. That would've sold way more consoles than exclusive content for one game. Nobody's going to buy the 360 solely for the exclusive content for GTA IV. Saying that three million people are going to buy the content is very optimistic. It's not going to happen.

Instead of paying $50 million for these episodes, MS should have paid to fix their hardware.

I can't take them serious anymore because they seem to ignore the major problem they have.....it's NEVER been software, it's been the reliablity of their hardware. Yet here is another instance where they are willing to spend hand over fist for software but you hear NOTHING about them fixing the hardware.

It's been explained multiple times in this thread that they really aren't paying anything for those episodes and that it's a win/win situation for them. This isn't about bad hardware so don't try and make it about that. There are plenty of threads about that already.

Microsoft are also banking on more multi-console owners buying the 360 version (instead of the PS3 version) because of the exclusive content so its a win for them either way.

Oh really Nostradamus? Just like gta3 didn't sell ps2's? I suppose it won't sell ps3's either then. GTA is a huge critically acclaimed series. Just as big if not bigger than the likes of Halo and MGS, perhaps just as big as FF in the states. But to think a monster that is gta won't sell systems is plain retarded. When the masses (casuals included) who don't have a next gen system yetrealize the next gta is comming out and how great it looks they're gonna look at the ps3 (600) 360 (400 with exclusive content)it doesn't take a rocket scientist to make the obvious choice.
