Why all the hate on Kinect?

Everyone who own's an Xbox One will own the Kinect. So this means you can skype and video chat with any one on your friends list at any given time. And cetainly walking into the room and saying Xbox ON has to be worth something? It seems rather cool that everyone will own the Kinect and be able to voice/ video chat with friends while doing whatever it is that you are doing. Browsing the store or internet. It's a cool feature. The reason PS Eye has never worked in the past is because there is no value to own one while no one else has one.

If I can use Kinect to find out what the bottom of an Avatar's shoe looks like - bam, I'll get on the hype train.

lts fun when used right but its limited. Meaning developers will constantly try to make it do more than its capable of doing. Resulting in a lot of mediocre/broken games.

My hate on kinect is more to due with not the tech or the uses.

i Just cant stand motion gaming/cant stand cameras watching me, and other then that with the xbox one Kinect, is not OPTIONAL for a launch xbox, its forced on me when im never gonna use it. (and i refuse to pay to disconnect it)

I see 0 game uses, all i see is minor conviences(if voice recognition doesent fail with me like allways does, get around menus faster), i care about the games not forced on menu voice / gesture navigation.

gamers with family or girlfriend will love kinect but basement dweller don't like most people here

No point asking here. There are probably about 5 cows here, each with a handful of alts, and they spend practically all day giving themselves reach arounds in their own threads.

Now I get a free game, I honestly don't mind the price. It means im getting Kinect for about £40, which just for the chat features and menu interaction is quite good. Not to mention the small uses it'll have in normal games, for instance head tracking in forza.

There's always the possibility that down the line Indies develop some really fun titles for use with Kinect, also.

All in all yeah, I can't complain.

It's more or less the same as saying "Lights on" or clapping to have them turn on. Say Xbox on in your most sensual voice and she'll be melting at your soothing tones, and Hardware mastery

Hate? Such a strong word for a piece of plastic. Annoyance and dissapointment fits it better, especially when it's a mandatory >jam down the throat< gimmick.

Will probably be OK for a few party games and is likely the main reason I may end up getting one down the road.  It's nice to have some games that both girls and boys will want to play when you have a few people over.  Also the mrs will only play either 2D or motion control games and I like to get her involved where I can.  Makes a change from me playing games while she sits and watches soaps.  

I also hate how MS thinks it's some kind of amazing innovation that will blow peoples minds away, all the while shoving it in our faces like we need it.  No we don't.  It's USELESS for gaming. ****in junk.  It only serves to jack up the price like $100.

I have a family AND girlfriend and Kinect is still shit. If it was that good then PC gamers would all have it too since its available on PC. Fortunately for PC gamers though we arent forced to have it, so we dont.

If Kinect offered interesting games i would back it up.. however it doesnt.. 

As an alternative control/command for Menu browsing its way too expensive... Video/voice chat with friends?? there are other alternative ways, phones/ cellphones for example... Also I've been Video chatting with friends for years now on PC so why should I be excited i'll be able to do that on X1 via kinect?

By that logic, why did you even get a phone?  You could do that on a computer well before you could do it on a phone.

I love what the new kinect can do.  Mo cap in project spark, face scanning in ksv, and the sheer tech makes marvel.  People hating on it is nothing new.   It sold 24 million and that was the first iteration.  The next kinect will deliver

Watched dev diary for Kinect Sports Rivals and I was surprised that there is still noticeable lag , despite port built just for the Kinect camera. Granted, it's something easy to account and adapt to, but don't try to hype it as being super advanced and all these other nonsense power words when there is still lag issues. Given that they are having issues with vocal optimization, I'm guessing accents will still be an issue. The only great feauture I saw touched on is its sensitivity in low lighting, that's great.

Also, Skype iintegration s overrated, I never used it but just watched a live interview with it used as the medium for the interview and there were quite a few audio/video hiccups. It's great that users have the option, but it's not better than other apps that do the same.
