Why All the Hype for 3D Games?

Why is everybody talking about 3D games being the future of gaming when I have been doing it for years now. I have been playing 3D games on my PC for a long time and don't see the big fuss about the consoles getting them. Just like everything else, they will be inferior on the PS3 and 360 since only a select few games will be in 3D. Take a look at this list here:

So, PS3/360 fans if you want to use 3D as a means of claiming that your console is better than the other, then you must admit that PC is the superior gaming system since for every game that you will be able to play in 3D there are 20 more on PC. Thank-you for your cooperation in the logical debate of video game systems.

There was someone on my l4d2 server today who was talking about how he had just gotten a gtx275 and 3d monitor and everything. He seemed to like it. ALOT

Hmm because sony is hyping 3D like it is the best next thing and most people don't take to account the money it costs for a 3DTV thus claiming console ownage over the other without realizing that a very small amount of gamers will be benefiting this feature IMO

I find 3D movies to be kind of annoying and they have been trying to push 3D gaming in the pc world for years with little success. I think the only hype is from companies that want to sell this crap.

Honestly i don't get all the hype about 3d, its gives me a horrible headache. and on a side note there are games i've seen coming out on 360 with a 3D Mode, a recent Indie Game that i have forgotten the name off but is on the marketplace has a 3D mode, all you need are red-blue filter glasses. i don't understand why developers/publishers just add a 3D mode to their games for the gamers who want to experience 3D but cannot afford to shell out thousands of dollars for a brand new 3D set when people are just beginning to shell out for 1080p. 3D mode is the money saver, the PC has had that option for a few years now with the release of Nvidia's glasses and what not

If it was really that great then it would have taken off. Kids like 3D movies but most gamers don't care about playing in 3D. I bet half the people that play them will get sick after a few hours.

Why the big companies are buying into this 3D fad is beyond me. At least motion control makes sense, as much as I don't like that either.

Advancements in 3DTVs will have to be made before it becomes big imo. Most notably, the glasses will have to go. Still, everything has to start somewhere, so the introduction of 3D might as well start this generation (I'm definitely not planning on buying a 3DTV this console generation though lol).

It's a revolution because the marketing people said it is a revolution, never mind 3D has been around for years. To me the 3D hype is a typical example of manufactured popularity, it's popular because someone pumped the money into making sure it is popular.

If you want to know what I truly think it is, I think it's just a distraction. PS3 is pushing it because they need some sort of differentiator outside of pumping 10s of millions into exclusives; because that's expensive. Nvidia is pushing it because this lowest common denominator limited market has reduced the demand for higher end hardware, so they need something to bloat the system requirements.

They could have introduced 3D to the mainstream gamer at any time, Nvidia could have certainly done it because they were responsible for the drivers that many of these 3rd party 3D companies relied on years ago, it is simply in their interests to do so now.

Problem with 3D gaming will be the cost of the TVs. 3D seems to be the next step in technology, but I don't see this being a huge success for the PS3. More than not this will arguably be a testing ground for the PS4.

Its the Sony propaganda machine telling us that it's gonna be incredible and essential for the full gaming experience.

ATM it's just a gimmick but it'll defientley be commonplace in few years. It will eventually add to the game but not without a lot of trial and error.

They said colour T.V. would never take off.
