I can't understand why there is so much hate on the forums for Microsofts Natal. I am not saying this thing is going to revolutionize the industry or be the next big thing, but it should be a good alternative for those Xbox gamers who want a "different" experience without going out and buying the competitors system. I sold my Wii just so I could get a Natal. The fact that is has no controllers has me sold. The Wii was very gimmicky and it caused too much clutter around my game station with all the Wiimotes, Nunchucks, battery packs, steering wheels and etc. Even Sony has their Move controllers coming out, but honestly that looks like a blatent HD Wii rip off. Yes, I own and love my PS3 but I got to say Microsoft has one upped Sony on this one.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but at least hold it until Natal ships and you have tried some of the software. No one is forcing you to buy this and it will not be a replacement for controller based games. Again, its an alternative platform for unique gaming applications you won't find anywhere else. If Natal can do what its promo videos have shown and do it effectively I think the 360 will have an add on that will eventually become a must own for alot of people.
As far as traditional games are concerned I can see alot of new games using some Natal features but will not require them. For example, I can see people actually simulating free throws in basketball, or shooting a puck in hockey, or maybe you would actually get up and do a curb stomp execution in a game such as Gears of War. These are not huge steps for games but certainly help add to the immersion. I believe once you see Lionhead Studios "Milo" game that many will see a glimpse of the true Natal potential. Alot of developers have jumped on board with the Natal and they seemed very impressed.
The games industry will never move forward if gamers and developers alike are comfortable living in the past. Its kinda like the old days when people rode horses and didn't see a use for gas powered automobiles. Now we just can't imagine our lives without cars!
Lastly, I think for Natal to become successful is the price. Its still a gamble at $150 but I think if Microsoft can sell Natal for $99 or less, this device will be flying off shelves. Maybe they should even make a Natal bundle that is marginally priced above the normal console price. Can't wait for E3 to get more info on this exciting new piece of technology.
