Why are new titles still being released on Gen 7 hardware?

TitanFall, Little Big Planet 3, Destiny, Metal Gear Solid 5, Persona 5, etc etc

Thing about it for a second. Gen 7 consoles are 8-9 years old. 8 - 9 freaking years old. Why are they getting any new games worth a darn? All it does is waste resources the devs could have spent on making the game better on next gen. 8th gen has killed 7th gen sales of the same game. Titan Fall is a great example. Little Big Planet 3 PS4 is leading 4-1 over the PS3 version in all the preorder polls I've seen. Destiny PS4 had 800% more preorders then the PS3 version.

Sad part is the PS4 version will be dumbed down in order to make it cross platform compatible with the nearly 10 year old PS3. Who is buying Destiny on a gen 6 console? You do know its a 10 year project. You'll be playing it on the PS3 in 5 years let alone 10?

Im hoping this is the last year we will see this? Thats one year too long.

Sony releasing GT6 on the PS3 already blew up in their face when Killzone Shadowfall outsold it.

Well-established userbase, and it's relatively cheap to port/create games for those systems nowadays.

If you buy Destiny on PS3 (digital), you can redeem the PS4 version too. So you get two versions for the price of one. And PS3 has free online play, so it could be useful if someone ever decides to stop paying for Playstation Plus.

If I bought Destiny right now I'd definitely get it on PS3.

Pretty simple really lots of people like me are still using those and not newer ones. Why is world of warcraft 15 years old? Lots of people have older computers so its all about the amount of people that can play it. You cant afford to skip 360 and ps 3

Heads up, that exact same deal is also on Xbox, and it is not at all PlayStation exclusive.

*nods* True, I was just highlighting one particular advantage of getting the PS3 version (free online play). Plus you'd get the exclusive content. And you'd get the PS4 version. Also, PS3 games can be played on two different consoles at the same time. At this point I'd consider the PS3 with the free upgrade potential the best version someone could get, honestly.

They are waiting for more PC users to upgrade first.

You people do know that last gen and current gen Destiny can't be played "together" right? You can't play it on PS3 with people who're playing on PS4, and same with xbox. Not sure if it'll even be the same account (ie. characters), so I don't know why you would want the game for both.

Well, at least in the case of getting the PS3 version, you can let a trustworthy friend or family member (potentially one who doesn't have PS Plus or a current-gen console) who's interested in the game but not in your immediate vicinity download the game and play simultaneously while you play the PS4 version. I know that certainly wasn't Bungie's intent, but hypothetically speaking it does open up game sharing possibilities because you now own two version of the game and the PS3 has looser DRM than the 360/One/PS4.

Still mad Little Big Planet 3 will be dumbed down because of the PS3.

Xbone is so underpwered with dat ddr3 ram that once they make an Xbone version they've basically made a PS360 version for free.

Because there are a lot of people who like the level graphics have hit by gen 7 and will not dump $400 on a new console. That install base is way to high to ignore for companies.

Simple, Sony know a the console is expensive at the start of a gen, they know microsoft is going to be trying to get to the pot first (see solidbasic threads), but as usual, it's about the games, and would be nothing, without the gamers.

Userbase is too big to ignore.
