Why are people calling the new 360 the 360 slim?

Its hardly smaller and still has the power brick outside. Looks like a alienware pc.. not a smaller 360.. New design sure..slim -- no way!

Ps3 took the old version down 33% in size and weight. You can tell its a slim..360 not so much.

because it's become a sort of "catch-all" phrase for relaunching a console in a new/different box

Because it's better than referring to it as the "New 360 that's 17% smaller than the older versions"

i'm not so worried about technicalities if i were i would have lobbied to rename the ps3 the ps3 gimp in comparason to my launch model.

"Slim" has kinda become a phrase peopel always use when every a console gets redesigned.

Agreed, I prefer to call it new 360 since it's a new one after all and not even that much smaller or slimmer than the original.

Peopel might get confused when you say "New" 360 and they might think its a more powerful version of the 360 AKA a whole new console.

Im thinking from a casual point of mind. Obviously if you told me there was a new 360, I would know it was a redesign of the old one. But if you told that to average joe gamer, and you said new xbox (it depends how you word it), he thinks theres a whole new console out. Hell, even if you said new 360, he might think the same thing.

thats why i personally liek to adopt the term SLIM to new console redesigns taht are more then just internal stuff. that way, peeps dont get confused.

It's kind of unoriginal. Atleast the DS was renamed the DS Lite. :P They should have renamed it the Xbox 360 Slender. 8)

The new 360 is noticbly shorter (when standing) and literally thinner than the old box.
