Really. People, especially system war peeps, seem to think that innovation means having more powerful specs and more photo-realistic graphics. Please wake up and smell the coffee. This approach is very bad for the game industry.

I don't know but I think David Jaffe said it best this e3 he would rather see a game go down 20% in visuals to offer good content and replayability and allow the publisher to release more games. Instead of them releasing at current graphics levels and costing the developer and publisher so much to make so they only make a game once in a while.
Most innovation in gaming requires powerful hardware whether it's a powerful gpu, cpu, ram, etc. And for the next generation to last 7+ years like this one they will need powerful specs otherwise developers will abandon the platform (i.e. lack of third party on Wii).Really. Power is used for more than just pumping out graphics, so I don't see why it's weird that people would want more powerful systems.
Pug-Nasty
Because some people get offdue tothat kind of information.:P
I'm not one of them since I don't understand any of it.:lol:
ITs just most people's, or should I say men's nature. We do it in all walks of life.We do it with cars, it has to have the biggest engine, best rims, etc.. We do it with electronics like tv's , they have to have the best 1080p ,240hz, 80 inch LED, or car audio, with the 2000 watt amps, enormous subwoofers , etc. Its no different with people wanting the best out of a console. Most gamers prefer gameplay, but there is no doubt that the more power will give developers more room to make these games more engrossing. OH, and the graphics !

People are never satisfied with what they have or what is available. As soon as you get what you want, the next best thing pops up on your radar.
That's just the way people are.
think of battlefield. More processing power lets u have destrutible environments with smooth framerates. However, most fanboy just want to say their console is more powerful

lol, who said that aside from your imaginary friend?
Ill break it down for you, more powerful specs = better graphics, better physics, and more possibilities.
This is probably the first time I have ever agreed with you.I don't know but I think David Jaffe said it best this e3 he would rather see a game go down 20% in visuals to offer good content and replayability and allow the publisher to release more games. i want more power so something like gta earth is possible, i couldnt really care about graphics tbh, where we are at now is perfectly acceptable its just the lack of content and scope in current games thats annoying me, games havnt gotten any bigger this gen an that is partially down to hardware that isnt up to the job of making bigger game worlds

I think it's funny how some people are like "consoles suck because they use old tech!" ... really? Becausse I play plenty of great games on consoles.
because more powerfull hardware doesn't always mean better graphics, and let's just leave it at that. You figure out the rest.
[QUOTE="Pug-Nasty"]
[QUOTE="trugs26"]
But with this thought process, no one is ever satisfied. Well not for a very long time. You can always want more. The push for more power is fine, but an obsession with it is ridiculous.trugs26

That's the way all people are. That doesn't mean you are never happy, just that you always want something more/better than you currently have, which is why we strive to better ourselves.
Not being satisfied is not the same as being miserable.

Well the specs on consoles were once the best specs available... so, technically the possibilities are still endless.

..............what?The poster said that the best specs available means the possibilitys are endless. However, within a month or 2, the best specs will become outdated. However there is still a huge amount of possibilities on the older, inferior tech. Just because something is old doesn't make it usless.

OOoooh. I get it but eventually people have a right to want and demand more if game consoles never developed better hardware I would have stopped being gamer with my first NES. Better specs better possibilities.[QUOTE="turtlethetaffer"][QUOTE="Cj19_32"] ..............what?Cj19_32

Agree to disagree I guess.

Just because a system has topend hardware doesn't mean every game has to attempt to max out that system. By using dated hardware, you are setting a limitation on what developers can achieve. Lowering the ceiling. Not every game needs to look as good as Witcher 2 or BF3, but it's nice to atleast have the option to make games like that.

Yet it won't stop developers from making the same games over and over again.
That's true, I read that article on the 6 most ominous trends on cracked.com the other day, and now it makes a little more sense why the same game is made over and over and over again.

i think nintendo's design philosophy might force developers to think of unique and innovative concepts and ideas. Alas, third party support for nintendo has always been not good.[QUOTE="goblaa"]

I hated that article. Simply because its naive to think that games wouldnt have the same symptoms of say Hollywood.That line right there is a bunch of BS! Try telling that to the guys over at the PC hardware forum. To them if you cant run a game at 2500 x 1600 at 60 fps, 16x AA, fully shadows and effects on yada yada, yada, then it isnt worth playing. I personally dont subscribe to this think, but there are many who do. It is unfortunate, but even developers are making visuals the priority. Look at DICE flat out saying that only about 10% of PC gamers will be able to run BF3 at maxed out levels.ITs just most people's, or should I say men's nature.
