Halo has such a rubbish storyline that it can all be boiled down to a meaningless Alien Invasion. The covenant are attacking earth for no reason except for the fact that it creates a gameplay mechanic.

In Metroid it is the allies that attack the Space Pirates because they abuse technology. They abused the Metroids and they abused the Phazon.

Do any Lemmings care to defend the Halo series? Or is it final?

Depends how you define Covenant now, since the Elites are on the human side.

The Covenant are not attacking Earth. They're merely going to an Ancient Forerunner site buried deep within the Earth. Naturally, Earth's Defence Forces have to fight back.

The Covenant hatred for the human race (Did it ever occur to you why the aliens wanted to destroy humanity rather than assimilate it like all the other aliens species?) could be boiled down to what lies in the Earth, and the link between the Forerunner and Human race.

Rubbish storyline? I think not.

In Halo: CE it was told that the Halo was essentially a bomb designed to destroy the entire galaxy in order to starve the Flood, and yet in Halo 2 the humans encounter another Halo. Why bother to create two Halo's in the same galaxy?

Isn't that a bit like having seven TV's in one livingroom?

edit: actually it's worse. You only need one galaxy destroying bomb to destroy the galaxy, so why have seven?

ZOMG! Plot hole.

Lilac_Benjie

Nice digression there.

There are, and always have been, 7 Halos (It was a given since Bungie is in love with the number seven).

Yes, Halo is a weapon that can wipe out an entire galaxy.

What's stopping you from thinking the fleets have been using slip space to enter different galaxies in each game? Slip space allows faster-than-light travel, so it doesn't require a stretch of the imagination to believe they've been around multiple galaxies in the story line.

It's still not a very good storyline as of yet. Halo 3 will have to be pretty fantastic in order to impress me.

The Half Life storyline is fantastic though, and very well told throughout the environment.

What happens if a TV goes bust? Always nice to have a replacement.

Yeah, you are really grasping for straws. Why? Because each and everytime you've moved on to something really different, and when you said Halo didn't have a good storyline, you didn't have proof.

It does have a great storyline. It's not generic, and I can give you proof on that, if you so wish. I can even give you proof that Half Life has more sci fi cliches than Halo has.

Considering the pattern in which people debate: Yeah, it's proof.

Why do I get the feeling you havn't really played the games..

And there is 7 Halo's because 1 Halo doesn't actually "blow up" (Kill floods food really..) the entire galaxy, cause their radius isn't big enough.. but 7 of them is enough. Atleast that is the impression I got at the end of Halo 2, where the 7 rings are revealed. Or they were to ensure that the job got done.. or I should have been paying more attention at the time.. oh well.

And the entire first game does not involve attaking earth.. and only the first 2 levels of the second game involve earth. So it obviously boils down to more then attacking earth? However, Halo 3 does appear to have a lot more to do with earth, in the covenants search for the ark, so they can activate the Halos, so they can complete their "Great Journey".

Meh..

They are attacking Earth to get the ancient Forerunner artifact called The Ark, which activates all Halos around the galaxy. The Coveneants are religious ignorant bastards that don't care what they do, they want to finish their "Great Journey"

Oh and they built several Halos for security reasons. What would happen if one of them got overrun by the Flood? Yeah, they go to the next one, please think. Plus, one Halo did not reach ALL of the galaxy, but when you activated The Ark and triggered the Halos, they would cause a chain reaction and all Halos would explode and then cause enough damage to kill all life in the entire Galaxy.

at the moment the covenants holy leaders have misinterpreted halo to be something of a great holy significence however it was built by a far superior race thousands of years back that used halo to wipe themselves out to stop the spread of flood. the covenant learn that the ark (something that sets off all halos) is on earth and they go there to activate it thinking it will take them on a great journey. i however suspect that the prophet of truth (one of the covenants holy leaders) knows exactly what will happen and plans to take shelter in the ark to escape death from the halos going off.
