Why are they hyping the new consoles so much?

I am curious. Everyone with even mediocre gpu/cpu knowledge knows this is a huge scam. Theres no way consoles will perform the way sony and M$ say they will. Its not gonna be the leap they are claiming. Do these companies just prey on uneducated folks?

Still, it's a pretty significant upgrade. And when you're locked into upgrade cycles that last 6 or 7 years, it's a pretty big deal. Doesn't take an idiot fanboy to be excited about that.

Are they though? It’s not like either company has shown impressive gameplay. MS has shown decisively unimpressive gameplay. If Sony and MS are trying to hype their consoles I haven’t really noticed. Lamest console launch ever.

They take advantage of Console only gamers who know nothing about Tech hardware and feed them lies and buzz words and they eat it up as they lack the tech knowledge to know any better. Also it is of course a dishonest marketing practice to help sell their consoles.

Well hold your horses MS flight 2020 has more or less proven that the cloud can give us things not possible through normal game distribution, the streamed quality of the geomatry and world detail would be in the size of 100's of Terabytes if it was physically downloaded to your local device.

That said... The Hardware in these console will be mid range and the CPU even worse with the clock speeds they have being under 4GHz is not high end regardless of architecture and core count in terms of performance it will be slower than a 3600 for gaming.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: The cloud can be useful for different applications, but how they were hyping it last gen to make up for the lack of local processing power was just silly. Anyway, I think the new consoles will be pretty good overall. They won't be shit like this gen.

It will be more or less the same. Every generation has been since PS2... Prettier graphics same games and still 30FPS.

The hardware is much more balanced next-gen. They no longer have a shit tier CPU. Next-gen is not 4K only. They can accommodate higher frame rates at 1440p and 1080p.

You better fight in politics. AFAIK they allow grey areas as long as it generates money so the're more things to tax. AFAIK this is a major reason why food supplement "scams" are a thing (not all are scams).

There was a senator who heavily defended against regulations and accepted money from those selling food supplements.

I hope someday we will get an announcement "Hey guys in two months we are releasing Console Blah Blah Blah" and that's it. No secrets, no ambiguity...just an announcement followed by a product.

No one benefits from hype, pretty much 95% of the people knew six months ago 12 months ago etc what console they were buying no matter the cost or capability.

For now. Maybe.

That's the privilege (one they squander, I would argue) consoles get: they set the pace of tech advancement, for better or worse. So initially, and for a short time, they are the standard to which games are developed solely from the fact that if you are a multiplatform developer you have to develop for all platforms.

But then developers push the limits once that hardware is out, consoles get left behind, PC evolves constantly.

It being balanced isn't the issue when it comes to console hardware... Its the developers intent that restricts those options, most of the games announced so far are 30FPS only.

Not to mention that for Ray Tracing these console ARE bottle-necked by the GPU.

RAM, CPU and Storage are no longer a problem on the console's but the GPU with the current software advancement we have just been introduced to is not enough for even 1440P/60FPS on High/Ultra settings, its why the PS5 was running UE5 demo at 1440/30FPS.

Consoles more than PC need a DLSS like technology... Modern resolutions require 2x the TFLOPS than the consoles have to get all the bells and whistles.

Which games? Please provide examples where the developers have stated that the game is 30fps only.... regardless of resolution or settings.

Lets put it this way... 60FPS video exists on YouTube.

The games shown on the PS5 with game play footage have 4K video's on you tube only 3 of them where at 60 FPS video's.

We can't assume that developers will offer a 60FPS mode in their games same reason your attacking me is the same reason why you shouldn't assume that it will be a thing.

All we have to go by is what we have been shown so far and that is 30FPS games with 3 exceptions such as Gran Turismo and some indie c***.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: Expecting 60fps at lower resolutions is reasonable based on the hardware available. There are already developers claiming that their games will be running at 120fps. It is unlikely that many of them will be doing that at 4K. So, developers are looking at different ways to utilize the hardware. Seeing as most people still have 1080p TVs and it is easy for developers to provide different resolution and frame rate options, it would make sense for them to provide the best experience possible at 1080p. Especially if being GPU bound at 4K is the reason for that 30fps. There is no excuse for not providing 60fps or higher at lower resolutions (provided that the CPU is not also a bottleneck).

Why are companies going their products? Do I really need to answer the obvious? Some people are just never happy. These machines are in a much better state than the ps4/x1 at launch

I'm not even hyped for the new consoles at this point. The ps4/Xbone was a hard sell to begin with and it was a gen that I took my time getting into -- which was right until the good games started coming out. I could care less about the bells and whistles. Just show me the next gen games and then I'll jump in. Until then, next gen can wait.
