I don't understand it. PC gamers stand by their games even after newer, flashier ones get released. Any PC game that was ever popular still has a loyal following.

Remember when GRAW (2006) was realeasd and every Lemming thought it was the ****? I dare anyone to try to find a GRAW game now.

However, I can easily find a match for Counter Strike (1998 ), Starcraft (1998 ), UT (1999 ) and many other games that were released a long time ago.

So what's the deal?

Online gaming is still very young for console games/gamers. Most of them are accustom to stop playing games after the first month or so. So naturally they move on to the next best thing and abandon older games. This is also the reason why console versions of games get such poor support because devs see no reason to support them when two or three months down the line no one will be playing.

That's the problem with gamers... they play something for a month, get something else and let the older games collect dust until years later when the nostalgia kicks in.

Because none of the games are very deep, customizable, or have mods. Only takes about a month to get good at and bored of everything.

I have brought up this very question. Seems like console gamers jump ship before really learning a game and playing it to its fullest. Where PC gamers will play a good game and support it for 10 years.???

Well the PC has the help of expansion packs which increase the longevity of a game. Console gamers are now being introduced to things like downloadable content and expansion packs whereas it was mainly a PC thing.

PC gaming has a way larger population then xbox live. That is why you have more ppl on PC playing older games. It's as easy as that. For PC's its not as easy for people to just grab a new game and start playing because many would have compatibaility issues with hardware, etc, which is nonexistent on consoles.

This is very true and very sad. Rallisport Challenge 2 is a perfect example. This is one of the best racing games ever made, period, and there's nobody to play with online.:(

It's not all bad, I can still easily find games in Counter Strike, and Halo 2, but most games have kind of fallen off.

It seems to me that Microsoft would do well to abandon there pay to play philosophy, because that's what's killing the older games like Rainbow Six 3, Rallisport 2, and NFL 2K5.

35 million Xbox's sold, and who's going to pay $50 a year to stay onboard.

Xbox Live Silver members count as members, so I don't think there's actually very many Gold members.

I guess it makes sense as to why most Xbox Live games loose support. Either people move on to the next best thing, or they abandon Xbox Live all together.

Look at the PC games you mentioned aside from UT. Those games haven't had any sequals in years. On console most online games get updated yearly if not every two years.

Gears (2006) Still has a huge fanbase

Dead or alive 4 (earlier than GRAW, 2006) Huge fanbase

Halo 2 (2004) Huge fanbase

Why would people stick with graw when graw 2 came out and was much better? come on, seriously...

I have to agree. When a console game recieves the same type of indie commnity that PC games like HL or Starcraft(aka, hundreds of levels and mods(for free)) itll recieve similar attention. Halo 3 may survive longer than halo 2 simply because of Forge (although the limitations in forge are likely to get old quick) but not many console games have the sort of longevity offered by many PC games.

Xbox Live is thriving, it's the original Xbox that was abandoned. Who the hell wants to play NFL 2K5 in 2008??

Why would I continue to play Rainbow Six 3 (played for 6 months straight, logged in over 500 hours), when 4 other games in the Rainbow series have come out since??

Yeah, actually, I don't understand the concept of actually wanting to stay with a game for more time then it takes for something BETTER to come out.

I have one guy on my friends list who is still hooked on Gears. Can't get the guy off of it. All well and good for him I guess, but he's missed out on a years worth of great games.

He's missed out on COD4, Mass Effect, R6V2, The Orange Box, and on and on.

I know him personally however, and it seems to me that he has gotten so comfortable with Gears, and after playing the same damn maps for a year, almost godly, he's scared to break out of his comfort zone and maybe just maybe get owned at something new.

Unless a game is an MMORPG, I can't see any reason to stay with it and miss out on new games. Matter of fact, I wonder what state the industry would be in if people bought one game every 2 years.

its not complicated? you have absolutely no idea what your talkin about, go play CS for 2 years straight on average 30 hours a week and come back and ill still own u, but its not complicated...

Youll just come back wondering why you spent all that time playing and I'm still running circles around u.

I'm trying carefully to put this in a comprehendable way.

Because of the volume and loyal following for some PC games, sequels may take longer to release. I mean, look at Starcraft. Blizzard knows they don't need to release SC II to peak interest in the series, but to continue it. Mods also play a huge role in it.

PC gaming has a way larger population then xbox live. That is why you have more ppl on PC playing older games. It's as easy as that. For PC's its not as easy for people to just grab a new game and start playing because many would have compatibaility issues with hardware, etc, which is nonexistent on consoles.

your living in the past if you think pc gaming has lots of compatibility issues. a pc from 2005 with say a 7800gt, 2gb ram Athlon x2 has no problem running games
