Well I must be extremely bored, as here I am on my computer, asking the question "Why be a fanboy?" in the System Wars board... I've sunk to a new low.

But seriously. Why? I spend most of my time on The Gamespot AU threads, where most of the gamers there are not fanboys, and we have civilised, non biased discussions on the upcoming games. It's a great community, and I learn alot there, and meet some great people.

But then you come to System Wars. It's like a joke! You have people trying to "prove" their system has the best game library (Which is impossible to do, as whether a game is good or not is up to opinion). You have people gloating that their console or PC is more powerful than other peoples, which is kinda stupid as all the consoles are graphically capable (Yes I can hear your anti Wii comments already, but Galaxy looks pretty good considering the Wii's hardware). Then you see people taking bets on which console will sell the most. I have no problem with people trying to figure out who will sell the most; it's a fair Question. But WHY in the name of hell does that make one system better than another? As long as there's good games released, the console functions, and you enjoy it, isn't that what matters?

But anyway, back on track. Why be a fanboy? Why would you want to limit yourself to one brand of gaming? Do you fanboys out there actually realise how much you miss out on? Are you trying to convince yourself that the console you own is the "right" choice? Why not do what I do, and get them all? Don't get me wrong, If you don't like the other brands, and only are into one, that's fine. Just don't try and put yourself up above the rest! Nor am I saying that everyone on SW is a fanboy or Cow or lemming, but I must say; there are many here.

Please tell me why, because it makes no sense!

I have nothing against people not liking other consoles as much as another, but when they insist theirs is the best, and bash the other consoles and their users; that's when it's just stupid.

There is a big difference between preference and fanboyism. One is normal, the other is a mental disorder.

Like I have preferences. I like the 360 the best, but I still really like the PS3 and Wii, and can't wait to get them I don't bash them.

Know what I'm saying?

If a console don't sell well, how are you going to get those good games in the first place?

Anyways yeah, I agree with you, being loyal to ONE brand is stupid. People who believe that there's nothing beyond the 360 are just well.....Pure fanboys.

You can't be loyal to ONE company acting like it's the best and blah blah when that company don't even know you exist nor cares. Companies just care about money.

It's easy to understand what you're saying. Of course the only ones who understand are the FEW logical people we have in SW.

I agree. Personally I dont hate any of the systems, I have all three and a gaming quality PC. Of those, I would say the 360 is better, but I do really like my PS3 and it was definately money well spent, and my wii... well, its pretty much collecting dust. I really cant stand those people who have to say that their console is better, whenever someone says that one is better than the other, my fisrt question is always "do you own said console?" and their answer is almost always "no." As far as I am concerned, you have no buisness saying which console is better until you actually play them all on a regualr basis or own them.

Yeah, I see your point and is the exact reason why I go to places like the Consoles Debate Union and as you mentioned, the GSAU threads rather than this place. I honestly don't understand the logic behind bashing a device meant to play video games whether it is the 360, PS3 or Wii.

Sorry, I should have been more clear on that point. Of course it matters if the console sells well or not. When we buy a console from a company we become stakeholders in that business, and we rely on them to perform well for us to have opportunity to purchase goods from them in the future. I know that all too well.

What I was refering to was how fanboys are obsessed about which console is selling the most. As long as the console sells WELL, it doesn't need to sell the MOST. I don't care if whatever console sells the most, as long as they sell enough to suplly us with good titles and the prospect of another console, that's all that matters. Many of them think "Oh yeah our console sold the most so it's the best". That's what i meant.

Yeah i understand people just get butt hurt when they here that a system that they don't have has a good game they can't play and instead of just saying aww that suck i cant play that they try to defend their purchase

Its less expensive, so owning one console is more convenient. And video gamers are more competitive by nature so finding ways to own other people is just what a lot of us do.

Rather a fanboy than manfan... wait, what?

It's just insecurity, everyone has it. The attempt to reasure your self that you have chosen the best possible option in the most extreme way. It's the same with sports, but worse. Listening to people drone on about football scores (Or I suppose that's 'soccer' if you are anywhere but America. Yeah, I guess that makes me a British fanboy :P.) is truely pathetic. Team A scored this many more goals than Team B, but Team B is readjusting to it's new manager so that's the reason why they lost despite being a better team. Same old crap everytime, no one ever just looks at the score and says (Note that dosn't apply to gaming in such a simple way.), "One lost, one won. The latter was the better team because it won.", unless they support the winning team. It flips around fairly quickly as soon as their team losses. People are just not willing to accept the failures of the things they support. Fans will though, and will do so in the most burtal way. I'm not sure what's worse, FF fanboy's or FF fans. The fanboy's will claim ever single one is great, but the fans will claim every single one released is worse than the last, and that the quality is decreasing over time. Both are illogical. Then you get annoying fakeboys which are there just to annoy people because they seem to think that it is the pinnacle of entertainment.

Well if you just spent $500 of your money on a PS3, you need some reason to convince yourself that you made a good purchase. Just say it over and over again and eventually you will think it is true.

Honestly, I think it's really no different than rooting for your favorite sports team. Obviously, if you own 2 or more of the current gen consoles, you may be indifferent and love them all about the same. But for those of us that can only afford one, we decide which one to buy based on whatever we perceive to be the best deal for the money.

Back in the day, I was an NES fan, then SNES, then Playstation, then Gamecube, then PC (WoW), and now PS3. But even though I have no desire to buy a 360, competition is always a good thing generally. So the more pressure Nintendo and Microsoft put on Sony, the better for me, IMO. :)

Well, just because you own ONE console, it doesn't mean you have to be a fanboy towards it. Why not just say "I can only afford one console, so i chose this one, because i thought it was the one for me. The other consoles are great too, but I personally perfer this one."? It sounds a heck of alot more intelligent and dignified than "ZOMG I bought da Xbox 360, and it's so good! Haz Way betta games than the PS3 and live is awesumm!!! You PS3 and Wii players suck! Owned!".

Agreed. Hating on a piece of plastic in just stupid in general. :|

You don't have to be a fanboy if you only own one console. Hell, the console you have shouldn't even matter because you can still be interested in other games. I only own a PC, and a DS but I don't bash other platforms.

Actually, I would consider myself more of a PC fanboy than anything. But nice try though.
