Why Crysis on PC is extremely difficult to port to Console. Video link inside.

To quickly summarize, it is the memory bandwidth and size that prevents Crysis from being readily ported to a console.

He said it exactly - consoles are streaming machines, and it would require a different approach towards development. That's not to say large worlds like Crysis aren't possible on the PS3/360 - it's that they'll require intelligent design to accommodate the current-gen consoles strenghts. Jak 3 for is a good example of how far a streaming engine can go, even on very limited hardware.

I don't think we'll see Crysis on the PS3 or Xbox, that why I keep my PC decently up-to-date.

Honestly, I don't see why people thought Crysis had much of a chance of going to consoles when Oblivion has a hard enough time running on them. Those games with huge open spaces and massive draw distance, you don't exactly see tons of them on consoles, and there's a reason. They take up too many resources and too much power by the nature of what they are, and what they're meant to do (be a large, open, often living world).

I'm not saying you don't see any, as Oblivion obviously does that to an extent (as well as Halo 3, it looks like), but they're rare. And Halo 3/Oblivion don't bring nearly as much technology to the table as Crysis (not to mention they're capped at 30 fps).

I built my PC almost a year ago ($1500 Canadian)and it runs all games flawlessly. It will also run Crysis on high in DX9. Oh, and my specs are X1950 XTX, E6600, 2 Gigs of ram, and plenty of hardrive space (320 gb).

your just digging yourself into a bigger and bigger whole.....I read the article....it only says that they could port it if they cut back on certain things....obviouslly they cant port it with full graphical quality (almost all multiplats look better on the PC anyway)

Well, your saying that PC gamers spend absolutely TONS of money into there rigs which is completely untrue (unless you have alot of money to burn.) I built mine a year ago, never upgraded since and planning to upgrade at the end of 2008. Oh and dident I tell you that it could still run games on high when 2008 is up?

BTW, I do have a job and recently bought a Gibson Thunderbird for $2000 and still have money leftfor other stuff.

BF2 came in 2005. SC2 might come in 2009.

my mistake on BF2....but...nevertheless HL2, and BF2 came out one year apart....last year company of heroes came out.

SC2 doesnt have any release date...but Blizzard is taking a different route this time and announced the game late in development (it begun development in 2003) judging from the fact that its already in playable form...with a private Beta already announced....it seems likely that there will be an 08' release.....

and of course Farcry 2 and Spore are also both coming in 08.

Dude as much as I love my consoles, PC IS ALWAYS AHEAD. It doesn't change, all it takes is a developer to take advantage of the better hardware, like with Crysis.

Yeah it's not cheap, but in 3 yrs, Intel and AMD will probably have 16 core CPU's by then, PC systems with 8GB's of RAM will probably be whats considered high end instead of 2GB or 4GB like today.

Sound crazy? Well 3 yrs ago people would have thought 8 cores would have been nuts, times have changed.
