Because of $$$. HD DVD uses MS's compression format (VC-1) and the interactive menus on HD DVD uses MS's programming language. Blu-ray uses Java for thier interactive menus. That is a lot of money in liscensing fees to be lost by MS.

Why?

Its the same exact type stupid question the TC asked.  Sony is a huge supporter of blu-ray so if MS supported it they would support Sony, if Sony used Windows they would support MS.  You dont follow your competition you go against it.

Yea and what is your point. It is up to the indivual studio if they want to use it. They are not required too.

No **** sherlock. Blu-ray also uses other compression formats. What do you think will make MS more money? A format that that uses VC-1 for everthing or a format where the studio will be able to choose the cheapest compression technique.

If they supported blu-ray that means more sales for Sony, and that means more money for them.  If MS can make Blu-ray obsolete with HD-DVD they will make the PS3 less impressive when it comes to looking at bang for your buck.  Pretty obvious stuff if you actually look at it in an overall view instead.

Isn't Vivid Entertaiment supposed to be the largest porn studio? It's supporting both formats. I'm no expert on the matter.

Price is going to be the major deciding factor in the format. Once most consumers start catching onto the HDTV craze, which hasn't happened yet and won't happen for a while, the decisions is going to come down to what's cheaper. That is how most consumers think, and why Wal-Mart is the king of retailers. Unless Blu-Ray can come down significantly in price, it's not going to last.

Both of these players will lower in price. The beginning of this new craze will occur when hd-tv's become cheaper. Not when you could buy a 100 $ hd-dvd player or blu-ray player that can't play movies without a 1000 $ tv.

Also if it has no support what is the use of having it? It is cheaper but doesn't have any support making it absoloutly useless.

He's trying to say, if it's cheaper, and the consumers are grabbing it, the support WILL come.
