Cheaper than investing in a custom processor + it's easier for developers since they are used to that type architecture so that too makes it cheaper to make the games since they get the job done much fasterWas it because that developers wanted it or what? All games programers learn on the x86 platform. Making it much easier to make games. Think of it this way your a english speaking person and I want you to write a paper in spanish. It would make a hard job nearly impossible for most people.
Much cheaper, much easier to optimize for in their compiler, and its a instruction set that allows them to share code much more easily between their platforms. Â

Its long overdo. Â The Emotion Engine was a mess, but the Cell really bit Sony in the ass. Â

They also pretty much bought a off the shelf chip design, so RnD costs are down significantly. Â
Backwards compatibility via hardware would increase the cost of the system.The lack of effort on BC is ridiculous , i may jump ship.Â
