Why DID you get into gaming? No, seriously. I got into gaming when my cousins sold me their old NES when they heard the SNES was coming out in a year. After playing through the NES and then the SNES, I got into gaming a lot since games allowed for worlds you couldn't experience in person and they were so darn fun. Nowadays, every game is some tactical shooter or GTA ripoff. Reality doesn't belong in games... Anyway, what got you into gaming?

I had a Coleco vision. I didn't like it. Played Duck Hunt at a friends house. I was a gamer since then.

Back in the early 90s my dad bought an NES. Super Mario Bros. and Tetris. Then later games like SimCity 2000 and Civ II hit the computer. That's why I am a gamer.

I loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was a youngster, and my parents bought me a lot of Ninja Turtles merchandise, including the NES games. I loved those games, and eventually got a Sega Genesis, and fell in love with the Sonic games. the rest is history.

LOL... well, for me it's like "why did you get into your hobby?" But then again, this is a pretty big hobby, taking in about 1/10 of each week.

The same reason every other gamer got into gaming, for fun. I think you meant to ask how did you get into gaming.

Because gaming is actually a secret project thought up by a secret underground organization that promotes brainwashing, but I said nah, I don't need brainwashing, I love video games already.. Why not get in to it? Or maybe because I am geek? I think you got why and how mixed around, don't you mean how you got into gaming? Why, because Video Games PWN even if that term didn't come till gaming started. How? Hmm.. I guess because I tried the Super Nintendo and fell in love with it.. Mmm.. Boozooka!

My older brother had the Atari 2600, and me being the younger brother snuck into his room and played it when ever I had the chance, My first Console all to my self was the Sega Master System, iv had a console in one form or another all my life sense then.

Let's see...

Ten years ago, I was four. My dad had a Sega Genesis and an NES. The NES had mostly sports games so I wasn't very interested. However, the Genesis had Sonic and Sonic 2. I was hooked.

Ever since I can remember video games were always been in my house as I was growing up, my parents had Pong, an Atari, a Colecovision, they played as much or more than we did.

I remember the exact moment I got into gaming. I was about 4, and my parents dragged me to a neighbours party. I have never really liked socialising (I have a stutter and I'm very self-conscious) so I asked my dad if I could play Nintendo in my neighbours bedroom and he agreed. I stayed there all night playing Super Mario Bros :) That was when I became a gamer, and more evidently a social retard

Wow, I guess there are a lot of people that have gotten into gaming in so many different ways (well, obviously) and it's really cool to hear this rather than the old arguements over the companies and systems.

Back when I was 4 (1981), my dad was an electrical engineer at Zenith but he wanted to get into computer programming. Of course, at that time, the PC was in its infancy. So he got something called the Odyssey 2, which was a gaming system (joysticks hardwired in, of course) that had a membrane QWERTY keyboard on it. You could use the keyboard to do assembly programming, but he got some games too. One was a really crappy racing one he took back, the other was K.C. Munchkin, a Pac-Man clone. That was the first game I played, and I've been playing ever since.

(As a side note, I never did learn assembly, but I did learn to do BASIC on the Vic20, which we got probably around 1983 or 1984.)

My parents give me the same crap also. Even today, when I buy most of the gaming stuff I own with my own money, they still bother me about it asking "aren't you gonna buy something worthwhile? (etc)" and the funny thing is, THEY bought the NES from my cousins for me, I was too young and they got me hooked on it. Well, I blame them, Mario, and that crazy dog from duckhunt.

I started gaming almost 18 years ago, when I was 3 years old. There really was no reason for me to start gaming, I just did because my parents had bought a few consoles, I grew up on Atari 5200, NES and Genesis within the first several years of my life. I didnt get a new console after that until the N64 which is when I really started getting into gaming, I think I had about 30 some odd games for the N64 and Gameboy Colour around that time.

I (was) socially awkward as a kid and spent most of my time reading and drawing. One day I went to a friend's house and played Colecovision. The competition opened me up and I was into the game and I had the best time of my young life with someone. After that I was given a NES and two games. Those games lasted me years and, even though my passion for gaming declined throughout the years, I became an somewhat of an avid gamer.

I guess it was the colors and the fantasy and the feeling of being "in" with the few people I knew. I could talk about games since I knew nothing of music and they cared little for books. Contrary from what the media tells you, video games helped me out socially.
