Why do all first-party Sony games still look like cartoons?

I just saw Killzone 2 "Sniper" gameplay and it looks like a freakin' cartoon. Infamous looks like a cartoon. LittleBigPlanet obviously is a cartoon. Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Resistance.. what's with the cartoonish graphics? Even the new Kratos looks like he's ready to quille da wabbit. It was cool when the games were meant to be family friendly, but Killzone 2, Infamous, Resistance, and God of War just aren't so easy to take seriously when they look like this. Excuse me I'm drunk.

perfect dark zero, Banjo kazooie, Kameo, Braid, Mario, No more heroes, world of goo.... all these games look cartoony and Its called artstyle. This particular art style isn't limited to the ps3...so all you're doing is simply displaying your bias. and god of war looks as good and as artistic as the previous playstation games with a bit more detail...so I don't really know why you're complaining it looks "different."verbalfilth

Well, in terms of cartooniness.... (or better yet in this case, 3d modeling and animation) ; to be honest with you 3d modelling and animation, no matter how good, will never capture reality. if you didn't realize that by now then its probably evident that gaming isn't for you...perhaps movies are your best bet for realism.

and if you find games like killzone 2 cartoony, then i'd hate to be you when cel-shading becomes a standard lmao.

Killzone 2 doesn't look cartoony but I thought the explosions in Uncharted were too cartoony they just didn't seem right to me.

Its animations are exaggerated and its explosions are mediocre. Other than that, it looks great. Typical Sony. Come on, don't act like you don't have the right to be pissed off just because you bought a freakin' PS3! I AM! I want better online service, I want DLC, and most of all, I want something photorealistic that thirsts for blood, and Sony won't put it out there. I want just one game to have some sharp textures, stiff animation, relentless violence, and rediculous special effects. I'm tired of this glossy art style. How about just ONE game that looks like it's actually trying to imitate life rather than coat everything with butter? GOD. Then quit video games. That's my best advice. No matter where you might look, ALL video games are cartoony with your logic, even Crysis. Nothing is photo-realistic in the video game world. Devs use a skill to make the worlds and characters BELIEVABLE to the human eye to make up for realism. Get over it. You're just trying to make a poor excuse for bashing the PS3. It's obvious that's all you're trying to do when you failed to include everything else from Master Chief to Samus Aran, Banjo-Kazooie to Mario - using your logic.

Seems to me all you seem to want is some extremly violent, blood soaked, head exploding, gore dripping, murder fest. Each point you make always has the underlying tone that you wanted some kind of extremely gory game.

You say u want some extremely photorealistic game with a style closely remsemblying that of real life... well gee, I didn't realize that blood soaked bodies, dripping organs and exploding limbs was reality.

i dunno, my gf's dad owns a ps3 and he told me the wii doesn't have any "actual games" , by actual games he elaborated he ment realistic games

so therefore i assume the ps3 is chock full of realistic games because they're not wii games by comparison.. actual games would exclude anything 2d for sure as well

Actually it's kinda awesome, drunk + system wars = non stop laughter, especially when there are threads with funny pictures. You should do it however after you partied and got home. Being high = exponential rise in teh fun.
