It's certainly nothing to brag about. Its basically any companies last resort to stay competitive in the market, and price drops have never proven to significantly alter the outcome of a console war, just add a temporary spike in sales.

Look at PS3 on Amazon for instance, which was number 1 for about a week and now has fallen by the wayside as the Wii is number 1 again.... depsite being sold out.

Significant price drops show that a product is doing very poorly on the market and come off as an act of desperation to consumers.

Have you tried, you know, looking on Amazon.com right now? PS3 is still #1.

Even though I usually agree with the points made to some degree, do you have to make a new thread eveything your old thread floats down five spaces?

I really disagree with that, the PS2 sold huge amounts when it had a price drop, it wasn't under any major threat from the Xbox, it wasn't an act of desperation, it was an act of dominance, it was like Sony saying "ok you've released your new console with higher specs, but consumers want a good deal...So there you go consumers" and the PS2 went on to sell over 100 million consoles...

I think this will be Microsofts strategy, hit it's competition with a price drop this holiday period and hope to have the same effect, whether it will or not is anyones guess...

Probably the same reason some fanboys cite sales. These things are machines, just like your toaster oven. I could care less what company makes what, as long as it fills the role I purchased it for.

Exactly. Price drops are a natural part of most consumer electronic cycles. They make the consoles with plans of reducing the price as the cost of manufacturing goes down. Shane Kim of MS has stated the price drops are part of the overall strategy and the biggest PS2 sales came after drops, especially the latter ones.

Why would anybody complain about a price drop? Its good for consumers you idiot. It doesn't matter what company does it.And no it doesn'tmean desperation from a company, it means that the company is actuallylistening to their audience. I would complain about buying a$400 dollar machine that was put together half @$$edso I have to send it back to the manufacturer so it'll work properly which should have been done in the first place.None of the other two consoles had this problem except the one. Complain about that.
