But Bioshock is on both the 360 and PS3 and if I'm not mistaken was a fantastic game on all 3 platforms. The "fact of life" is the console audience can be just as complicated as the PC audience. Crytec realized that and that's why we will be seeing a multiplatform Crysis 2. clubsammich91

yet bioshock is nothing and no wheres near as deep or involved as system shock 2 its predecessor.

and we havnt seen anything of crysis 2 yet, not that it was a complicated game to begin with.

I can't afford a high end computer and have a low end machine, but I don't even know what PopCap is. Way to show off your elitism. If I could play some of these games, I would, but my lowly 400$ comp would melt if I put Crysis in it. but if Crytek would allow the game to run on lower end machines, then I could. Imagine how many copies they would sell then.

heysharpshooter

crysis ran fine on my single core system that was from 04 with a gpu from 06 on meidum high settings.

crysis runs on lowend gaming rigs fairly well. its not designed (nor is any noncasual game) for nongaming pcs or laptops.

it had the stigma of needing a super rig just to run or to run well.

Oh wow, I'm suddenly an elitist? I think you misinterpreted something there..

All I was saying is that most of the people who are truly interested in non-casual PC games already have the hardware to allow for it. Even if, as you suggest, games magically had lower requirements without sacrificing features of the game itself, I still honestly don't think average sales would increase very much, particularly for the more traditional PC games that don't really have a similar experience available on any of the consoles (stuff like STALKER or Crysis.)

EDIT: To be perfectly honest, non-casual PC gaming is not more niche than console gaming just because of the hardware/cost aspect. I think you'd need far more than a drop in system requirements to generate significantly more sales. That's all I was saying..

I used to be a console-only gamer during most of my gaming career. I don't hate nor resent consoles, nor do I think that PC gaming is perfect (far from it). I just prefer PC over every system because it basically covers all the games and genres I'm interested in. I don't feel the need for another platform (but I would love a DS!).

I don't "hate" consoles. But I am annoyed that the PC's hardware is not pushed to its limits to due having to port over from the consoles. AND that games are getting more mainstreamed & casualized.

I don't hate the consoles. I wish I had gears of war 2. I dislike the controls mainly for FPS/ shooting games or games that feature shooting. I consider aiming with a analog way worse than a controller.

I mainly dislike console for controller. If PS3 or 360 had a supported keyboard and mouse that you can play games on, I would buy either one.

Exactly. Why do idiotic console gamers need to spout off about PC gaming when they don't know anything about it? Examples in this thread include the clown claiming that PC gaming is dying out.

I don't hate console gamers, well, not all of them.

There are the Cows that believe themselves to own a super computer that is far above everything else, even the latest technology on PC. Then of course there are the ones that make up stuff about PC then bash it for it, the "a gaming PC costs $1000s" and "every PC game is a unoptimized bug fest" people.

At least it's nice to see that some developers who make multiplats take the time to include some PC-exclusive features. And even then aside from Crysis there have been exclusives that have been pushing hardware. Empire, WiC, ArmA2, and upcoming Project Offset. As for mainstream and casualized, I'll have to agree.

its less about 'losing' games most of us are perfectly happy to see pc exclusives on the consoles. i for one was excited when crysis 2 was announced multiplat.

however the issue is when pc exclusives go to the consoles and then return home they return as a bastardization of the former game. this also applies to multiplat games with a pc focus turning into a console focus.

examples would be dues ex and dues ex 2. the first game was great one of the best FPSs ever. it was a pc focused title but still multiplatform. however the second was designed around the console audience. the RPG elements were toned down. it was a watered down version of the first game simply to gain more sales on the console audience.

its similar to bands selling out. theres plenty of bands making great music that continue to that catches mainstream success not because they write the music for the mainstream but because theyre just a great band (related to video games and this topic that would be games like HL2 and Doom 3 both multiplatform titles with a pc focus that are epic). then theres the bands that stop writing the music that gained them a following and write musics soley to appease the mainstream or to gain a larger audience (ex FEAR 2, dues ex 2 and looks like 3).

thats why we 'hate' consoles.

even though its a ridiculous statement since most pc gamers have a console or two anyways.

i guess the other way to explain it is this. the consoles once existed as a separate relm as the pc, there were console games and there were pc games. even multiplat ones you knew where they belonged. even last gen there was simply no excuse not to have a console if you were a pc gamer. they had great games. issue is this gen especially the consoles are trying to be the pc. and developers are trying to meld that line between them into something unholy.

Play Deus Ex 2 and you'll have your answer, the dreaded "Consolfication"!

When devs make a game for consoles and PC the PC version is held back by the console's limitations and not just technically and control wise. Console games have a higher levels of "dumbification" aswell which really pisses off PC gamers when it seeps across.

You know how when Bioware announced the next KOTOR to be an MMO, and most console gamers were all like "ewwwww"? Yeah, its kinda like that sometimes when a PC game is turned multiplat and catered or compromised for console audiences.

The transformation a game or series sometimes undergoes during the "consolization" process is often disappointed.

But most people can't build a computer/afford a pre-built one that could play that. They push it to the limit, spend tons of money and make very little in returun because only a handful of people could actually play the game, and half of them would pirate it.

This is the attitude that is killing PC gaming IMO.

fail harder.

crysis cost $40m to make. it sold at least 2m copies last word from crytek. the rumors are 3m. lets put it at 2.5 million. the game debuted at $50 and then went down to $40.

lets assume 1m people bought it at $50. thats $50m then the rest of the 1.5 bought it at $40 thats $60m for a total of $110m. now even if crytek gets half of that money its still a $20m profit for them. on a single system.

even though it was pirated.

even though people were under the perception you need a monster rig (you dont)

even though it had the stigma of 'all graphics no gameplay'

id say thats pretty good for a game with mostly negative hype.

Actually Crysis was only 20 some million to make not 40

I hate console fanboys, not consoles. The amount of willful ignorance in this thread alone is enough to justify that.

I dont hate consoles I just dont like the fanboys that are spewing misinformation and dont see all sides of the matter. These are the people who swallow anything Sony or MS say and do what they say is good or think whats right. They also take the beatings MS does to take more money from them and feed them with less and less while costs stay the same or increase. Talking about MS the 360 as a console sucks as a reliable system, with a really high failure rate in one way or another. Live is also a rip compared to Pc and PS3, But consolers in general have the wrong facts about pc gaming and tech both on their systems and Pc which gets alot of pc gamers aggervated and it starts threads that are seen all over SW.

I always wondered that I play PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Everytime I get on PC they hate on consoles because they say it takes no skill (autoaim) and the graphics suck, but what are the other reasons?

kunal1092000
Because a lot of games that were before PC exclusive become multiplat, and because they appear on consoles, have most of the depth stripped to be replaced by flash.

However I'm a software engineering student, so PC gaming was a much more attractive option due to all the possibilities.... anyways, as soon as i have enough cash I'm also buying an xbox 360, so u see not all PC gamers hate consoles

I'm a PC gamer and I don't hate consoles, but I will occasionally post some stuff that comes off as elitist, but it's only because the consolites of this forum that know absolutely nothing when it comes to PC gaming.

Hermits actually do hate consoles I'm sure, but any random PC gamer is probably not that way.

I dont. I only have a couple of PC gamer friends who really dislike console gaming.

Otherwise everyone I know who is a PC gamer likes console gaming, and own another system (be it PS3, Wii, 360 or handhelds).

Anyway this being a web forum means people are going to be more vocal about extremes.

the consolization of many games which is often called "Dumbing Down". as much as 360 and ps3 fanboys say stuff like that about the wii. the pc fanboys will say that about the 360/ps3.
