Gears 2 was just a bad game. As far as Halo goes -- Halo 3 is on equal footing with Combat Evolved in my mind. Halo 2 was really, really good it just didn't meet the level that were set by Halo 3 and Combat Evolved.
The first Halo was just the most acceptable; it had half decent level design. Each Halo thereafter got progressively worse in that aspect except for ODST which ironically was the least well recieved (yet had the best level design).

Overpricing, aging graphics engine, weaker plot, and another game with a lack of progression will do that. But agreed ODST was more of a return to form for the Halo series in terms of single player.
also from a campaign standpoint, and the amount of content you got in the Gears 2 MP, Gears 2 was much better than Gears of War 1. Gears of War 2s mp was just even more unplayable, but Gears 1s mp is overpraised to hell and back. It was by no means good. Not exactly balanced, incredibly glitchy, and so bare bones for what was out(halo 2 had like 2 to 3 times the content). In short, I strongly disagree with Gears of War 2 being inferior. Pacing wasn't as consistant as it's more relentless with it's pace and doesn't have enough good build up moments. But the action was top tier, and the level designs were so much better. One of the best 2 player coop games this gen.
All 3 Halo's had certain aspect where they did well where it lacked in the other versions.
I loved the sandbox feel they had in Halo CE and the lenght of the game.
In Halo 2 the levels where you had use a flying vehicle were the best compare to Halo 1 and 3.Also I prefered the boss fights that they had in the 2nd installment.
I enjoyed fighting the Scarabs in Halo 3 and I found the mp in HAlo 3 more enjoyable compare to the other two.
