I thought it was a good game. :) I honestly can't find anything wrong with it, the only problem I have with the game is that the steering wheel in all the cars is on the wrong side. Its like you're driving in America instead of Africa. Honestly why do people hate Far Cry 2?

I dunno', I thought it was great too. I played it way more than Crysis, just as an example.

Because it isn't Far Cry 1. I think having the Far Cry name hurt it a lot.

It wasn't as good as Far Cry. I want to see how Ubisoft updates the Dunia or Anvil engine in Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Wonder if Ubisoft will add some features that Big Brother (Father) CryEngine 3 has.

Because it takes place in brown Africa instead of tropical islands? That's probably a reason why FC3 will take place in green jungle environments again.

I think it's pretty bad but I don't hate it. Then again I didn't think the first Far Cry was that great either.

It wasn't Farcry. While it had a concept in paper that went beyond Farcry the execution was mediocre and dubious in various aspects. Hell even Crysis was a better sequel to Farcry than Farcry 2.

Because its extremely repetitive, with dull gunplay, terrible game mechanics, excessive traveling, lackluster AI. and I know not many people think this, its a personal opinion. but I hated the colors in the game, so dull, so lifeless.

I thought it was a really good game with a few crippling flaws, and while I could see past them I can understand how today's spoiled gamer can't deal with it.

Personally I loved the tension of sneaking towards a target, knowing that being seen would mean an entire compound of super angry warriors. I loved the complete immersion the game presented with the never there HUD, and I loved the feeling that I was this one man army who had to heal himself, fix up his own gear and plan everything himself.

I was ticked the AI was terrible and the fast travel wasn't more accomodating, but otherwise I poured in a lot of hours into the game and am very excited for Far Cry 3.

I wouldn't say it was as bad as some people make out, but i wouldn't say it doesn't have any faults like the OP did :|

One of my main gripes with the game was the fact exploration and travel was completely ruined by EXACTLY the same checkpoint being triggered at every bloody intersection, and being forced to fight off many enemies or sneak around them (which takes way longer).

Bland gameplay, lazy game mechanics, bad AI, lack of variety in NPCs, environment isn't used to its full potential Game is beautiful looking though, and immersive.

It was hyped too much by the developers. Stating that it would be the next big thing in FPS, something truely different.

And what did we get ?

Bad gunplay, same 2 enemies the entire game, repetitive, boring world with nothing worth finding, terrible driving, boring missions, malaria was one of the dumbest design choices this gen, it had nothing to do with the original farcry, repetitive, enemies that respawned every 2 minutes and it was repetitive. It did have a cool weapon degradation system and lots of different guns. Didn't look too bad either. Sadly none of those make up for the rest. Also did I mention it's repetitive.

There's a lot of things wrong with the game. It has some of the poorest map design I've seen in a sandbox game, with mountain/hill ranges forcing you down the same set of paths. Then there's the respawning guard post problem which makes everything very tedious. Enemies also tend to cheat: Far Cry 2 is the only FPS I've ever played that has rubber band AI. When you're driving on one of the roads and pass an enemy vehicle that is going in the opposite direction, it will have caught up with you in like 5 seconds. Another problem is the lame excuses the game invents to make all AI hostile (outside of the no-fire zones). Then there's a variety of other questionable design choices such as having to complete all missions for both factions to complete the game: choosing sides doesn't have an effect on the game; just on the structure of some missions.

However, I still think Far Cry 2 was a very enjoyable shooter. The graphics are amazing, I really love the gunplay and the presentation of the game is quite good. I also liked how you have a choice in what kind of weapon's you'd take on missions. There are a lot of ways to play this game. In the end, I think the game was held back by some gear-grinding flaws, but it doesn't deserve the hate it gets. I really enjoyed playing it.

Guard respawn, bad fast-travel and not really a good vehicle list/system. (and map that is a too big and empty) The first two cons really hurt the game a lot, I like the game, tbh never liked the first far cry, but the guard respawn really is annoying to the point it breaks the game sometimes. I liked what it was trying to achieve. Which is why I'm stoked for Far Cry 3.

Respawning checkpoints
Everyone hates you......even though you are working with them
No REAL faction system
FAR DRIVING
Weak enemy AI
weapon transports traveled in circles, eliminating any strategy.
No "regular" towns or people to interact with
Malaria at the worst times.......like while swimming :|
No wild animals...........in AFRICA :|

The trailers for the game looked awesome, but the actual game wasn't, imo. A lot of things in FC2 annoyed me:

  • Malaria - one of the dumbest things I've seen. Maybe I just have bad luck, but it always occured at the worst time possible, i.e. in the middle of a gunfight. I would leave myself wide open while I'm taking a pill.
  • Terrible AI
  • Dull environment/world
  • Random & respawning guardposts
  • Mediocre shooting mechanics
  • Reaching your destination takes forever - it wouldn't be that big of a problem if, you know, the environments were somewhat interesting. The respawning guardposts also play a big role on making your trip more time-consuming than it has to be.
  • Multiplayer was full of grenade launch spammers; everyone I encountered online would just use the grenade launcher.

There's probably a lot more stuff I hated about it. It's a good thing I rented it instead of purchasing it.

I'm thinking about going back and playing it, but there were GLARING flaws.

- The travel ruined the game. I don't mind navigating a map and choosing how to get to a town/objective, but even when driving a civilian vehicle you would be constantly chased and fired at the entire time.

- You just had to deal with getting chased all the time, because even if you take out your enemies they would come right back. And that checkpoint you destroyed a minute ago while fleeing (even if you blew the damned thing up with mortars or other explosions)? It will be back and fully patrolled by new guards, who will hop in their vehicles and chase you down.

- In a crowded FPS market, the game's online component didn't do a single thing to differentiate itself. One of the most generic multiplayer experiences of this gen that I've played.

- The gunplay also wasn't very satisfying. Hit detection seemed a bit off.

The game seemed to have great ideas, and I had fun at times planning and selecting the equipment I'd like to use, but the flaws just killed the game for me. I have a ton of free time on my hands now, so maybe I'll give it another shot.

I agree. Respawning enemies every 5 seconds ruined the travelling aspect (which could have been quite fun if done right).

Not if you were running, or driving or exploring or swimming or sniping, and even then only the most relevant HUD element (like ammo for reloading or health for healing or losing health) would be seen for just a few seconds before going away.

may b coz they suck in playing a strategy FPS and want mindless enemy with toy guns around them which they can kill with their powerful sword of something as fry cry 2 gives u option of various guns with unique properties...player can choose to kill enemy in rambo style...or can snipe them from safe distance...or can kill in a stealthy way that enemy will even know of ur presence n die...or can use diff. grenade launchers to bust their heads with a kaboom.....plus with bonus of beautiful views of valleys n waterfalls.......u can change weapons according to ur fighting styles of combine weapons of diff. fighting styles and make ur own impression.......... but no why would they like it.............as they want dumb enemies with 0.0 AI.......:-D
