why do people keep saying that xbl is racist and or it has too many little kids?

Um.. the internet community as a whole has moved in a racistic direction.. Calling each other Jews, "blacks" and such isn't exactly what I would call non-racistic..But I hear these words more and more often.. And well.. little kids seem too use these words the most and considering that you mostly hear kids on XBL makes racistic statements pretty common there.

It is massively over blown. XBL has jerks, just like any internet community. But there are probably more annoying people on System Wars here than you'll meet in a few years of XBL.

Hmmm...if all those people are complaining, and yet YOU have never had anyone do it to you, the only logical answer is...YOU ARE THE ONE CAUSING ALL THE PROBLEMS!

Seriously though, I don't know who are the people complaining are. I've never heard more than grumbling about those problems. I would hardly say it is a wide-spread and major movement.

thats exactly what im talking about. the only times i hear some one say black is when they refer to them selves. other than that, i never herd no N words, jews, etc, and i have played a fair share og game on xbl.

It was a BIG problem in Halo 2, I was really disgusted by some of the stuff I heard while waiting in the lobby before the game started.

In Halo 3 it's nowhere near as bad, i've yet to come across anyone behaving badly.

I am black and i can tell you there is far more jokes or comments about gays and jews then they are blacks. but this isnt new i mean its been around since online forums and online games have came about. its not just xbl. It is just soceity's real attitude. It is unfiltered thoughts that we cant normally make in public or at work.

people who are alarmed by it need to wake up to the fact that everyone thinks these things.

after all is said and done i find my self highly amused by the comments and wanting to join more games with people like that cause they make me laugh.

Well, as far as Halo 3 is concerned, if your playing team based, you cant hear or speak to the other team. AT ALL. the only time you can here everyone, is at the end of the match, and in free for all games. So if youve been playing mostly team based games take that into consideration. Also, it seems alot of people have forgotten that you need to push down on the D-pad to speak in FFA games. IMHO opinion, XBL is the perfect example of John Gabriels greater internet ****wad theory: Normal Person + Anonymity + Audience = Total ****wad

Dude,

I've had it for a year and had a couple of runnins with racists. The weird thing is that I always have my mic off on games while I'm playing, but I still listen. Both occasions there was a kid that just kept droppin the 'N'bomb like it was a bodily function. It's frustrating because I can't do anything about it.

I think its that sense of security that comes with the online community, everyone is a tough guy online, whereas in real life, I would've beaten the hell out of him for speaking out of terms. The second time that happened, I just quit to the lobby, life's too short to waste on the ignorrant. As far as the 12 year olds go, I just mute them and keep going, no problem, easy win.

Internet community hasn't moved in a racist/bigoted direction, it's always been there. It's the anonymity that causes it. People feel unfraid to say whatever they want when they're hiding behind a monitor (or television, these days). This is certainly no new or strange development.

XBL is no different than most other online communities. It's just a microcosm of society as a whole. Can't tell me with a straight face that you don't find many of the same hateful pricks in CS as you do in Halo.

That's my impression as well.

And people tend to forget that you don't have to play with total strangers on Xbox Live. Add people to your friends list and play with them, or simply give positive feedback to players you enjoy playing with/against, and the system will try to match you up with those people - even when you search for any open match.

There is so so so much more to XBL than just being a service that lets you play online. Which a lot of people will never understand.

Its true from my experience, I've been called the N word, gay Jew, f** and more on XBL by little pre-teens. Older people I've talked to on XBL are cool though.

12 year olds don't know any better, I was 12 once, a bad little ba$Yard at that. The racist,I can't stand to be in the same room with a person like that without throwing mouthshots, and playing with them on XBL even for a minute is like inviting filth into my home. I can't play against them unless it's fight night 3 where I can channel my anger through my boxer (Messiah Shaw). Halo3, it just messes my game up because I'm about ready to explode.

I remembered the first time I played Halo 2 on XBL, about two minutes into a match someone already dropped the N-bomb and I was totally shocked. But like an hour later, I was used to those kinds of comments.

It's not racism, but I've heard American players trash British players, which is just as bad in my eyes. On average, I find British players are actually better at Halo 3. :)

Its funny playing on XBl sometimes because the little teens call people the N-word or beaner and the people they are playing against are not even Black or Mexican. But the cool thing about that I can mute those simple minded kids so I don't have to listen to that crap.

i play halo a lot and the only real trash talkin was in btb ranked. every other type there was none. and most of the time it was some 20 year old not a kid. most of the kids are just quiet. its not like every game you have to mute everyone more like in 40 games theirs one guy who starts a shouting match or something and thats it.

Its not just xbl but it is noticed more on xbl bc everyone has a mic, the racist and preteens included. I experienced someone throwing out the N word at his own teamates on Warhawk psn like it meant nothing. I kindly informed him to shut up and his teamates largely ignored him, but i honestly wanted to slap the dude silly. I actually joked that he better shutup and not turn the psn community into xbl with his racism. The difference right now is not everyone on psn has mics but everyone on xbl live does, even though Warhawk is changing that and so will Socom. I just hope that we can keep those ppl out of psn and i hope you guys can shut them up on live bc voice chat is great especially for teamwork but ignorant little brats are not. On the same topic, did anyone else think during the Mt Dew Halo3 commericials that with all those ppl from around the world that over their mics they would probably be offended by the crap ppl say, especially in a halo game.

Every community has a similar ratio of jerks and morons. I'm led to believe that XBL's near 100% voice penetration just makes these monkeys more easily noticeable, since a) such idiots are less likely to write than to just speak, and b) it's much more noticeable when it's someone screaming your whole genealogy tree to your ear instead of writing in the bottom of the screen.
