its a racing game, that can only be compared to other racing games

shooters/action adventures games are very different and can't be compared

Racing games are much less graphically challenging, especially due to lack of soft surfaces like hair, fur, and cloth. That makes it less impressive to see, at least, IMO.

Because if you can make a racing game look the best by leaving out damage and features then why not make one thats turn based has no moving images at all, make it look incredible and claim you have accomplished something.

Racing games never seem to get mentioned in graphics arguments. Wipeout HD and Motorstorm 2 deserve a mention as well.

I know you guys are saying stuff like its a demo and its not that challenging to make but its still one of the best looking games

After all its what the game LOOKS like that counts right? What do i care if it was really challenging or technically impressive?

Kinda sorta. Its an in-between game made for between GT 4 and 5 to sate the fans. It has less content and a lower cost than a typical GT retail release.

If its not technically that challenging, the results are not that impressive to alot of people, and the graphical debates are all about impressive, which is why so few artistically magnificent games are ever mentioned.

Its also a Demo.

Full game should not be compared to demos.

Still can't believe Gran Turismo 5 got away with charging for a demo, other companies need to try this and see how it goes. Instant money.

The demo line is fairly weak, considering how much it has on the disc. Its about as fair as calling Crackdown the free game with the Halo 3 beta.

Because car games are too easy to polish without any framerate issues simply because its a few cars, a road, and paper environments.

2. people actaully forgot this game since it takes forever to make.

3. by the time when it releases, next xbox may already came out so the wii2, and people will literaly put this game in the history.

What are you going to compare it to?

A character model has hair, fur, shadows, diferent skin tones and various animations that require a lot more hardware resources. You can't compare that to a car model which is mostly comprised of metal - one of the easiest textures to display.

The only thing we can say about GT5p is how is looks compared to other racers like FM2 - and theres been more than enough discussions about it.

it is more than a demo but not quite a full game you don't have to be a cow to know that.

Yep, totally agree and have said so about Gears in the past, the difference is at least gears included all the things that other games in the same genre have, voice chat, effects whatever, GT5P on the other hand left out things that I have seen other console racing games do 5 years ago, mainly chat and damage. See the difference? Hmmm, prolly not...

MLB The Show 08 and GT5: Prologue are two phenomenal looking games that i never see get mention. But as stated in the graphics award given to MGS4, they take into account visual effects which don't really take place in sports and racing sims, because they don't belong there

1. Its not a demo. 2. That doesnt stop people from claiming Killzone 2 is graphics king based on the beta or the RE5 is graphics king based on the demo, now does it?

FM2 is a two year old game...Of course GT5P will look better...Look how much better R2 looks over R1..I tired to play R1 last night after consistently playing R2...and the age was just as apparent..

A great comparison will be FM3 and GT

It is the best looking game, even better than crysis, but racing games kinda don't count... They, just like everyone else said, aren't as demanding, it'd be like making a game which is just cgi clips that you decide to watch and decide what happens to the story, then selling it (like heavy rain, only all cgi, damn that would cost alot), just to say you have the most graphically impressive game.

Because the graphics are only really great during non-gameplay moments like watching a replay or in the menu. This isn't a knock against GT specifically. Burnout looks really great while you're driving it, but its like racing sims have so much math and physics going on that the actual in game driving never really looks as good as you'd hope.

That's a good way to put it...

I would like to add that SIMS do not rely heavy on Grafx for immersion .....But from game play mechanics.....Look at any of the proper computer SIMS and they are all very "weak" in the grafx department...I don't believe that the developers are not talented enough to produce stunning visuals.... But..... it more boils down to a waste of resources and development cost...

This can be quantified by the gameplay itself....Meaning when you are turning laps and you are focused on your line.... the competitors line....your proper tactics to pass...the apex....consequences etc...This is where the immersion comes from....The last thing you are looking/ focusing on is how many Polys the car has in front of you....
