Why do people say that the 3DS will beat NGP because it will have better games?

First of all, how good a game is is really just a matter of opinion. For example, just because one person likes Mario more than Snake, that doesn't mean Super Mario is a better game than Metal Gear.

And even if it wasn't a matter of opinion, isn't it way too early to tell how good the games on each system will be?

I couldn't agree more, eventually the mature content makes the games a childish as possible

Its called "predicting." Something that happens alot here in SW. Nintendo Fanboys obviously hate Sony and the NPG, so they will obviously say the 3DS will have the games, people who hated the PSP and think the npg will just be another psp say the 3DS will have the games, and people who know Nintendo's track record (and the DS's) when it comes to games, especially 1st party games, they are just really fun.

Again, everything that has been going on so far is just predicting and alot of Fanboyism. I remember a few weeks ago how all I was seeing were "Npg will crush the 3DS" or "NPG vs 3DS, Npg wins" etc etc topics. Trust me, SW should not count for everyone who games, but count as little as possible.

That's what we have sw for, to compete in meaningless comparisons, did you see the overrated uncharted thread?

Street Fighter 4 is technically a port, but it has a lot of exclusive features for the 3DS. Similarly, Ocarina of Time is a remake, not a port, with a lot of features that the original didn't have. Same thing with StarFox 64. Pilotwings is a brand new game, not a port.

I read the preference part and was like, 'woah! KBVP is going to make a meaningful contribution to a thread!'...and then I scrolled down and sighed.

Anyways, at this point, I can't be sure what will happen. I think it will be closer this time but 3DS will still win sales-wise. Library-wise I can't tell.

I big part of it will depend on NGP's price. $250 (highly unlikely) and we've got a race! $300 and it'll still be close. $350 and 3DS will have a big price advantage.

$400 and Sony will be way behind. But that's just my thoughts.

Then why get the NGP? It's gonna come out with less games than the psp. Did you buy a 360 or a Ps3? Did it have more games than the Xbox or Ps2 when it came out? .... Anything can happen. it's just too early right now. 3DS will have great games and so will the NGP, but the better games will be the games that deliver a great handheld experience.

I don't know which one will be better but I'm more excited about NGP than 3DS maybe because I've been enjoying PSP games a lot more than DS games recently but still I'm sure I will be getting both :P.

You can't really say anything about either console yet since the 3DS is just coming out and the NGP won't come out for another year. However,judging from the many games that have been revealed for the 3DS and the very little information given for the NGP, more people are going to get excited for the 3DS. However, things may change once E3 starts and Sony reveals more information, but for now, 3DS gains the edge.

My onlyworry with the NGP is that a lot of the games we see will just be handheld versions of franchises on consoles. Looking at thesupposed lineup - Killzone, Resistance, Uncharted, Wipeout, CoD, LittleBigPlanet. I think Sony needs to push new and exclusive franchises onto the NGP or make the handheld version different enough from the home console games, maybe by using the touch screen and other tech to their fullest. It also shouldn't be a 'dumping ground' for quick cash-in ports of PS3 games.

Games like Smart As, Little Deviants and Gravity Daze seem to be opening the doors a bit, thankfully. By the way, before you accuse me of bashing Sony or the NGP;I'm probablygoing to getan NGP on launch day, and I probably won't be getting a 3DS at all.

People forget that the 3D lens is causing people headaches and eye strain, which is going to make a lot of people ask themselves "Why am I spending an extra $100 on a DS with fewer games?"Mrmccormo

People say it because the DS beat the PSP 'cause it had better games, and because the NGP seems similar to the PSP in many ways. It seems like the NGP is gonna get a lot of PS3 ports, which is similar to how the PSP got a bunch of PS2 ports (or at least PS2-inspired games) and not a ton else.

It's still way too early to tell if this is gonna actually happen, of course. But that's why people say it.

To be honest, if the NGP is anything like the psp (game wise) and dev's bail a year into the life of the HH it's gonna be pretty bad for Sony.

People are saying 3DS > NGP cause of how good the track record Nintendo is with HH, sadly Sony is 0 and 2 in the HH department.

I personally think that the 3DS will beat the NGP. The reason I think this is beacuse of what hapenned between the PSP and DS. While it is true that the NGP is technically superior to the 3DS, and has more features, what a game console comes down to in the end is its third party developer support. The reason the NDS was hugely more successful than the PSP is because it was marketed as a portable gaming console with an indivudual identity and games made specifically for that console. The PSP, however, was more of a portabalised version of the PS2. About 90% of its games were complete ports, and the PSP hardly had any unique games that offered a new and different experience. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, however when you try to port a game that is made for a widescreen TV to a small portable screen, it doesn't exactly translate well, not to mention that Sony were basically shooting themselves in the foot by having one analog stick. You would have thought that Sony would have learned their lesson, but they clearly haven't. After a long time, all they did was get a load of technology and chuck it into a console and call it the PSP2. It is no different from what hapenned with the PSP and NDS, the PSP2 is simply a portabalised version of the PS3, with the only games announced so far being direct ports. The N3DS, however, maybe isn't as technologically advanced as the NGP, but certainly offers more than ports, and offers uniquie features that have not been seen before on a portable gaming console. Nintendo are innovative and creative, and come up with new ideas to appeal to a wider range of audicences and attract new customers with unique features, while Sony simply stash new technology into a system and create a console. In short, I think that due to the huge amount of third party developer support, and quite a large number of good games being announced for the 3DS, and due to the fact that Sony don't have much of a developer base at the moment when it comes to portable gaming, I think that the 3DS will be more of a commercial success than the NGP. In terms of technological superiority, however, the NGP wins hands down.
