all vita fanboys say that the vita has superior controls to the 3ds and that the 3ds controls suck. why. the 3ds does eveything the ds does and more, and wasnt the ds known for its gameplay. also the vita has a capacitive touchscreen which isnt as accurate as a resistive screen for gaming, just look at how painful and inaccurate playing on an ios device is. and didnt psp fanboys say touchscreens were gimmicky.

Vita has more control inputs. And 3DS should have had a second analogue built in.

because the 3DS has awful controls. The dpad is absolutely terrible. the face buttons are rubbish. I prefer the original ds lite buttons.

because the only reason ds controls were 'alright' was because the majority of the games were either side scrollers and/or turn based. I dont care what Anyone says... the stylus is NO replacement for a 2nd stick... it stinks...big time.. 3ds is gonna be focusing more on 3d games and 1 stick is going to blow.

I havnt run into any issues with the controls on any 3DS games that I have played, and I never had a DS so I can't compare and refuse to since I had not played it...however that is something that won't stop the Vita fanboys who say VIta has better controls and yet what experience are they basing that on? They may sound great but pretty much anything can if told to you the right way. Wait until you actually try it before automatically saying its better

Even Nintendo thinks it has bad controls. They are releasing (or already have) a second analog stick add-on for the 3DS which just has me loling hard as hell every time I think about.

I think the controls are okay, but aprently Nintendo doesn't think so since they are releasing a new d-pad.

DS mostly had 2d games, though. For 3d games with a 3rd person perspective like MGS dual analog is a must.

You say people in the thread title then Vita fanboys in the thread. So which is it? And there cdan be no such thing as a Vita fanboy because no one has played it. I have played the 3DS and it is not hard to tell that the Vita kills it but I do not buy handhelds. My phone makes the 3DS look 20 years old. And the Vita is way to much money for what I basically get on my home consoles.

I'm fine with the controls. So far, I don't miss the 2nd analog stick, and the entire package feels well designed. The dpad is more loose than I would like, but I haven't had any issues. It just depends on the person, I guess. Some people love the dual shock controller, but I hate it. Some people hate the 3DS controls, but I don't have a problem.

the only complaint I ever hear is about the lack of dual analog... which can be remedied if you need it.

Most will disagree with you on that, I won't touch a phone game without real controls. I have tried a few that came to psn and they still sucked with controls but waht can you expect for a couple dollar game compared to 40-50

It's not a "must" but it would be better with a second analogue, look at PSP versions.

In all fairness, I think that was a deal breaker to bring Monster Hunters to the 3DS. Plus, it's very cheap, and for FPS, you can always use the stylus as a second analog.

the biggest change to the hardware is extra power for 3D visuals and games. for 3D games, there isnt a second analog stick yet like you would rightfully expect (how on earth did it launch without it?). for 3D visuals, you dont want a touch screen 3D as its disorienting and it breaks the illusion. also, you cant really use the gyroscope or the 3D effect becomes nauseating. there just doesnt seem to be synergy between the features.

Me too, I would never want to take my hands off the controls to use touch. Thankfully on vita we won't have too, i will be able to keep my finger on trigger for shooting and use touch if I need too.

one of the most important aspects of tight controls, is COMFORT.

The navigation in games like WaW for DS, was attrocious.

okay so the thumb controls straffing. the other thumb controls the movement of the gun on screen, which let's face it whose thumb is long enough to move while being able to comfortable press the R1 button to shoot at the same time? Is this really the control option people are BRAGGING ABOUT? REALLY?

It can be a viable option. Ever played Hunters on DS? I was able to swap guns, aim, and run and gun all with just one hand on one side and the other on the touchscreen. What more would I need? If a game developer makes an FPS game for the system, add some smart context sensitive case like situations (going into cover, opening doors, etc.) to a button or just tap on the touch screen and you're set. I understand a second analog stick is for those who are comfortable with the old way of playing, but if there are FPSes on the 3DS, I want to use the touch screen. I find it more responsive and much better and I have no issues holding the system. Then again I'm one of the few people who can play FPSes just fine on a touch pad system like the iPad. Some people I think are just too afraid to adapt to changes and like their comfort zones.

Which is why the 360 controller is the best but it suddenly doesn't make the Dpad on it awesome. For DS it's the opposite, holding the DS for FPS's with stylus can be uncomfortable but the controls themselves work well, the touch screen essentially works as a mouse pad.

Maybe you haven't played one in a while I can't tell you how uncofterable it is. You really can't switch between holding the device with your hand and then switch to grab the penchil or poke the screen to look :S it's just not doing it. Nintendo should definetly make a 3DS with a 2nd analog stick build in it now that the 3DS has plenty of 3D games.

It worked fine on the DS Phat I used and the 3DS is the same size as the DS Lite which is smaller. Who's thumb is big enough? Seriously? How small are your hands? I access the touch screen all the time when I play games that use it. If I need a stylus, I can whip it out and put my hand over the screen, swiping the screen with ease while holding it with one hand. There's no "bragging" rights, so don't go there. It's about the system's design and how you handle it. Is yoru thumb not bigger than an inch and half or so it would take to reach the middle of the touch screen?

Lol wut? L button to shoot, i.e. same hand which controls dpad (or slider in 3DS's case) with thumb uses a finger to shoot.

IMHO, tdevs should do away with most of the touch controls when making FPS for handhelds. Evrything should be mapped to the face and shoulder buttons. The only thing that should be touch sensitive is switching weapons, items etc. I STRONGLY feel that way, actually I will never even buy a FPS for a handheld again anyways, Black Ops was my last. Strictly RPG's and adventure games from here on out.

3DS gives you the option of adding a second analog if you don't mind a non-portable portable. Even with the add on, the 3DS is still smaller than the Vita, and it clearly isn't meant to be carried together with it. The stylus with FPS is going to be pretty good, and it's my preferred option but I understand why people don't get it.

A lot of people think the stylus is more responsive and way more accurate than an analog stick. You're also running into the fact that the Vita's sticks will never fit in your pocket, and both the Vita and 3DS lack 2 extra shoulder buttons which will gimp FPS like COD since you won't have a button to throw grenades.

There are just as many ppl that think its a pain to use touch for aiming. Ppl thought the same about psp's analog saying it would break, but I'm sure I will have no problem with vita in my pocket. COD will have touch to throw grenades like resistance buring skies probably.

The 2nd C-pad add on has the two extra shoulder buttons built into it.

[QUOTE="bonesawisready5"][QUOTE="p4s2p0"][QUOTE="yoshi_64"] Some people I think are just too afraid to adapt to changes and like their comfort zones.

Depends what the changes offer, I won't mind using touch on vita since I won't have to take my hands off controls to use another.

Back touch pad on the Vita solves that problem.

Because they have not seen this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmXqPESPeEA Or they are just not use to playing with the touch screen, I thought the controls for RE Mercs were fine, no complains here.

They don't. They just claim that it does not have as many control inputs as the Vita does, which is plain simple fact.

[QUOTE="campzor"]because the only reason ds controls were 'alright' was because the majority of the games were either side scrollers and/or turn based. I dont care what Anyone says... the stylus is NO replacement for a 2nd stick... it stinks...big time.. 3ds is gonna be focusing more on 3d games and 1 stick is going to blow.

*playing 3D games on 3DS* Oh wait, you said something? As evident from the MH3G controls video, you don't need a second stick

The lack of a second analog is a real problem at this point. I'm sure it's been said before, but it cannot be said enough.
