Why do people think PS3 needs a price cut?

Elite 120gb: 400 + (controllers 50x3) + wifi 100 + (racing wheel 100x4) + (wireless headset 60x3) + remote 20 = $1,250 + blu ray ($150)

PS3 160gb: 500 + (controllers 54x3) + wifi 0 + (racing wheel 77x4) + (wireless headset 50x4) + remote 25 = $1,195 + BC ($100)

Elite doesn't have a HD player($150). PS3 doesn't have BC($100). With these added the Elite is $105 more than the PS3. What do you think?

I want to play games and I don't want to pay $400 dollars to do it. Sony remedies this situation and I stop complaining, until then, yeah its too much to justify its purchase in my opinion.

Becauseit's an overpriced console that isn't as good as the 360.

Because some feel that the price doesn't warrant what games it currently offers.

Because many people don't need useless accessories that people always try to tack onto consoles when comparing them.

The problem as always with these comparisons is that none of the add ons are necessities. You don't need a wireless headset. The wire plugs into the 360 controller......How long is your torso? Some people, I'd wager most of the average people, just want play games, quick and easily. $400 is more than $200. Some people just want to game like they did on the PS2 with current gen graphics. 360 gives you that choice.cainetao11

:| No. The problem is like he said, you don't have to buy add ons. I personally am not buying Live if I get a 360 and I'm not buying a bigger harddrive either so why exactly do I care about them? "What if's" are nice but when it comes to buying systems, they are useless since mine isn't the same as another persons. That's why we don't compare price with add ons, the last part was just a weak cheapshot as well.

Just because you're getting more than what you pay for, it doesn't mean you're not paying $400. With the 360, you can get a system just for gaming for $200. The PS3's only option is a $400 model. You have to pay for everything whether or not you want it.

why don't people just goto craigslist and buy a ps3 for $250?

Well for me it is. My Wireless router isn't that powerful and my PS3, 360, Wii are not that close to it. So yeah it is kinda useless, and wired connections are better.

No game console should cost more than $300. Ever. Going beyond that is PC territory.

But since consoles are trying so hard to be PC's, its no problem to see why they are beginning to cost so much.

You forgot to add two games to Sony's list because Elite's come with Halo 3 and Fable 2 ($40 each retail) ;).

Everyone keeps saying this. $200 to $400? If someone doesn't do their homework, the 200 dollar system is going to cost you more, if you plan on gaming. And you can't play all parts of the game. Why do people bring up the Arcade when their own play style is so much different than what "options" you have on the Arcade? Because the price less to prove me wrong... pfft. Options! Sony doesn't give you options? I like MS option: that you have to spend $100 for wifi. What is Sonys price for wifi? Oops, my mistake. They don't give you that option because it's not at a set price. That's the only "option" MS gives.. isn't it? Oh BC! But that's really not an option as you say because it comes with all 360's. so cross that one out. HD Dvd was an option. The worst option that MS gives is the Arcade. Nobody that's a gamer is going to look into one of those. So really on a gaming website it really doesn't belong.

If people could stop saying "you" in a sentance with $200 or Arcade, that would be great. Because it doesn't aply to anyone here (gamers). If we instead could change the "you" to "Not the smartest casual ever" or something along those words, I think everyone would agree.

PS3 and 360 elite has the most comparable features out of thebox. Even in the most 360 favourable situation (cheaperst one for each console), the 360 eventually catches up in yearly expense of XBL gold alone.

Most favourable? I think not. It just seems that way because of the results. Feel free to suggest a "happy middle ground".

It's sad to see lemmings arguing about this using the viewpoint of the most uneducated portion of the gaming community, and unquestionably embrace it despite its flaws.

Bottom line is, $400 is too much for people to afford in one purchase, not many people see consoles as investments (which they are) and are unable to look ahead in the future for possible additional expenses. Common pitfall for the average consumer, and M$ exploits it masterfully.

To the people trying to nullify the exsistence of the 360 Arcade model:

There is nothing wrong with that system. If you are a young gamer (like my teenage Godson) who is not going to game online, is not going to buy movies from LIVE Marketplace, then the Arcade is perfect for you. It comes with a memory card, so you can save games. It plays the games. It is a fine choice. Or goto thge pawn shop and get a 20gb model for $189.99 like I saw recently near me in Chicago. Either way, MS was smart. A model for people who are not really interested in online gaming, a model for those that are, and a model for those (like me) who will buy lots of movies from the marketplace as well.
