Well people think MAC aren't PC yet they share almost similar hardware and can run each other OS hell the steambox can run windows and linux
Then read the second sentence: "The term "video game console" is used to distinguish a machine designed for people to buy and use primarily for playing video games on a TV in contrast to arcade machines, handheld game consoles, or home computers.""A video game console is an interactive computer that produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (a television, monitor, etc.) to display a video game."

Because SteamBox is more of a console black box than a PC. SteamBox won't be as versatile as PC and SteamBox doesn't have anything significant which PC gamers don't have alreadySandulf29

Assuming the steambox is only for gaming? It can run WIndows and Linux OS from what Valve said so it can certainly do more than play games its pretty much similar to the Alienware X51 a pc in a console size.

The added benefit of is it's form factor which allows you to have it plugged into your TV without having a massive tower case get in the way. Also note, the last two words in that sentence, this device would still fall under the category of "home computer"."A video game console is an interactive computer that produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (a television, monitor, etc.) to display a video game."

Even Gabe Newell said it wasn´t a console, don´t know what´s the doubt tbh.MrYaotubo

Article on the internet and some people still think its a console
A few Consolities actually think that and have been using steambox as sometype of agument that Valve is moving to console business because it was somehow better yet probably never read what Gabe Newell basically said about the steambox. If steambox is a console than this right below is a console to right? lol I guess they missed the fact that it will run windows and linux while playing pc games on steam and mostly cpabale of doing more than just games.
Â
Probably because it's supposed to be played like a console.. Sitting back on a couch, with a joypad, while being connected to a high end TV, with high end audiom3Boarder32

You can do the same thing with a pc hell you can buy alienware's X51 if you don't want a big tower in your living room

Do more than mostly just gaming in general way more perhaps be more open as well?

Yes it can run Win 7 but that isn't its primary function. People aren't going to buy SteamBox to do office work, graphical designing, running clouds/servers, etc. but to play games. Latest smartphones and tablets have a lot of capabilities same as PC like browsers, media players, spreadsheets, documents, presentatios etc. but still they are known as smartphones and tablets and not PC In short, SteamBox is a black box with fixed hardware configuration and designed and optimized for gaming. By definition its an Embedded System not a Computer and primary function of this Embedded System being gaming I would say its more of a console than a PC[QUOTE="TheFadeForever"][QUOTE="m3Boarder32"]Probably because it's supposed to be played like a console.. What makes you think the steambox can't do office work
Â
not sure if you can customize this for data mining
That's the difference. People bought X51's for gaming. They do office work since they own it A PC can be customized to one's needs. One can build a $300 PC just for accounting/auditing, $1000 PC for graphical designing or $3000 PC for data mining. This cannot be customized. This is a computer but with a dedicated function and hence an Embedded System and not a general purpose computer[QUOTE="Sandulf29"][QUOTE="DarthRamms"]

I never said it can't do office work I said people don't buy SteamBox to Office work, they buy office computers depending on their needsAsk any Computer Engineer worth his/her salt the definition of an Embedded System and General Purpose Computer. "They do office work since they own it A PC can be customized to one's needs" If a steambox can do office work doesn;t that mean it can be customize for ones need. I mean I can't customize my labtop for dedicated gaming it can barely play any steam games I have.

Yea but you can't simply customize say a labtop into a pc that can do data mining
Not all office work can be done on SteamBox that's the point. You can do some work on SteamBox lets say accounting, auditing, filing reports, etc. but that a $300 PC can do as well. When it comes to high level computing like say data mining, running cloud servers, image processing, algorithms, etc. SteamBox can't do that. You can't upgrade your SteamBox to do that either. Which brings us back to original definition its an Embedded System optimized for gaming not a general purpose computer. It will be marketed commercially by Valve as a gaming device to gamers and not as computer to offices"They do office work since they own it A PC can be customized to one's needs" If a steambox can do office work doesn;t that mean it can be customize for ones need

Of course you can, with 2 catches: A) It will be software rather than hardware and B) Chances are it won't be that good depending on the laptop specs[QUOTE="DarthRamms"][QUOTE="Sandulf29"] That's the difference. You probably can but again it wont work efficiently because you can't change its hardware
I honestly don;t care what it is the steambox is good for pc gaming simply because it plays games from steam and you know what games are bought from it PC/MAC/LINUX that will only help pc gaming more ty gabe newell. Those who buy games to play it on will just help it more hopefully it somewhat successful at launch.
Because people are stupid, MAC is a personal computer. MAC is just a brand, which shows how stupid people are and how brillant Apple has been in their marketing to stupid people.Well people think MAC aren't PC yet they share almost similar hardware and can run each other OS hell the steambox can run windows and linux
