They want it to be a survival-horror game again.
Frankly, I never thought RE was scary, and I hated the controls pre-RE4, so I'm glad for the change.

The tank controls of the earlier games kind of got annoying and frustrating. Sure, the earlier games were surivival horror and played that role pretty well, but it doesn't mean the controls have to be irritating. I guess I want something that functions smoothly but keeps the atmospheric tension. Clunky controls doesn't equal tension

I couldn't agree more. Well said. I'm not against the series trying to be scary, but if crap controls are what it takes, I'd much rather have RE as an action series. It's not about the SCARE, but rather the tension, anxiety of trying to survive..which is ONLY created by limitations, concerning ammo, weapons, etc. Now RE gives you enough ammo and guns to maul through anything and everything. Atmosphere and puzzles is another thing that kept things rewarding and fresh. The new controls obviously need to remain, but give us a more tougher and survival based Resident Evil. The NEW Silent Hill Downpour is a great example. They want it to be a survival-horror game again.

Revelations is a great hybrid of both s(tyles) so I'd say they have to an extent and it was very successful. It's a great game that old, and new RE fans should check out.
In Japan, not NA and EU.Revelations is a great hybrid of both s(tyles) so I'd say they have to an extent and it was very successful.

The reason why you didn't care about it is because RE4 is nothing like the classic RE games. Which in turn, is why people would like RE games that play like the classics.
RE4 is a great game, but it should have been the birth of a new series. If Capcom wasn't willing to make future RE games, they should have put it on hold or concluded it properly.
understatement. RE5 was downright TERRIBLE in every sense.Cause it was fun.
Also RE5 was pretty mediocre.

I agree. You shouldn't have to create tension by inconveniancing the player.
As for the inclusion of zombies, eh, the fact that they're in RE6 should be enough fan service. In all honesty though, I'm sick to death of zombies for the last decade.
Some just want it to be scary again, others legitimately miss the days when bad controls and camera design were normal for horror, because of nostalgia I guess.
Mostly I think people just miss the horror aspect of the series, though frankly its never really been that scary, but the survival aspects would be welcome to return.

Well I dont know about you guys but I remember playing RE1 and 2 back in the mid 90's and both games were pretty damn scary for their time. Nemesis had its moments but even REmake was pretty damn atmospheric and scary.I think what most old school fans are disappointed at (and I agree with) that it is not a RE game anymore. Instead its a completely new game that borrows elements from past RE games and uses the title and characters for brand appeal. I do not mind an evolution of a series. Although RE 4 was not my cup of tea, it was a fantastic game and deserved all the praise. Now RE games are very western oriented, too much convoluted end of the world plots that you would find on other mainstream FPS games with over the top action.
But we shal see what RE6 has in store for us. Though the trailer basically looks like an action game all the way thruogh, RE:Revelations gave me a lot of faith.
It actually doesn't, it has "stop and shoot" controls. A modern example of tank controls would be Heavy Rain.Fun fact:
RE4 has tank controls.

The only aspect I would want from the old games is the following
-Resource management when it comes to ammo and health. NOT saves and my jacket.
Outside of that I'll take everything Resident Evil 4 did over the older games, because frankly they weren't that good to begin with. Save Resident Evil remake, and even that has some things I'd like tweaked or completely altered. By no means do I want RE taking itself seriously, nor do I ever think it was scary, and no I don't hold the puzzles in high regard. Because historically the puzzles have been more a pacing move than honest to god good interesting puzzles. At the least. Please never make a game like Resident Evil Zero. That game bores me.
Resident evil was so amazing because it forced you to truly think carefully about your next actions by limiting you. You had limited ammo, carrying slots, and even limted saves. This forced you to plan and strategize every step you take carefully. This resulted in some of the most rewarding gameplay 've ever experienced. The games used to be extremely puzzle heavy as well. All in all, the game sused to force you to use your brain alll the time. Sadly this kind of gaming is extinct these days.
I could care less about the horror aspect. It was the survival aspect that made this franchise so good back in the day.
Resident Evil 5 was one of my favorite games this generation, so I don't really give a damn what they do. The old Resident Evil games are classics, and they aren't going to disappear. They'll sit on my shelf for whenever I wanna play them.

To be fair, I think we could all thank Code Veronica for starting those "convoluted end-of-the-world plots". :P Also, most would agree that by the time RE0 came around, the series definatetly needed a revamp.
But yeah, we should wait and see what RE6 has in store.

the reasons i dont care about re5 type, is the same for why i dont care about uncharted. When i played resident evil I didnt think shooting game. The controls werent hard to use either for old RE, they were more fun. I also dont like the stupid martial arts in the new ones
^RE 6 just sounds so stupid on paper.jg4xchampI thought you didn't want RE taking itself seriously. You want it to start now?

I don't understand why the game is disliked so much. It did very well critically and commercially. I have probably logged more hours into RE5 than any other game this gen. I played it a ton co-op online for PS3, and I had RE5 running on a PC LAN with a friend for like a month straight playing through multiple times on the hardest difficulty. It's an amazing game with great bosses, fun co-op, great level design, amazing graphics, amazing sound effects, ultra high production values, tons of unlockables, but for whatever reason it's just popular to hate on it. People follow hate trains for the most part.

Leon controls like a tank. Forward is forward. Back is back up (facing forward). Left is rotate left and right is rotate right. The only difference is the camera is now behind the character at all times, making it easy to make sense of the tank controls.
They are under the weird idea that Resident Evil was a scary game in the first place
RE4 was fantastic, I have said this countless times, if you want a real scary game, go for Silent Hill

MR action COD man...of course it is. lol jokes, but the original concept, definitely had the atmosphere, tension and isolation. sadly, RE4 turned everything into a action cheese fest, especially with the dialog. Can't blame them, since the majority don't want survival horror anymore.[QUOTE="OB-47"][QUOTE="Stringerboy"]

RE4 was what Resident Evil needed to be, high octane thrills and amazing pacing both scenario and gameplay wise. Silent Hill has always been my go to destination for real horror.

But not a fixed camera angle, which made all the difference.
